Beautiful down at Sker today. Good to see dog owners cleaning up after their mutts.
Coomin Whitethroats have arrived and at Sker itself was a stunning flock of Golden Plovers. Some in summer plumage. A cracking bird. Got chatting to Paul from Glamorgan bird club. A decent fella.
Booked the day off today as the border has opened up with England. Had planned to head down to the Mockingbird but it left a few days ago. Not unhappy tbh as birding in built up areas has never appealed to me.
So plans were changed and headed to Gloucs. Thought I heard Hawfinch at Parkend but...
Ducked down to Burryport and Pembrey after work today. Good to catch up with Bernie- apologies for Bud’s constant whining Bern.
Added the following:
102. Rock Pipit
104. Bar-tailed Godwit
Lovely walk up to the Cimla with the boy today. 1st local Swallow over St Matthew’s church. Great views of a Cettis down on the Tenant Canal and good to watch some Sand Martins by the college bridge. Also heard my 1st Willow Warbler of the year.
101. Willow Warbler
Beautiful walk around Whiteford Point today. Pup was a little unsettled with so many sheep around. Bird wise it was fairly quiet. The expected Brents appear to have departed. Did manage to get to the 100 for the year at last though.
99. Grey Plover
100. Common Gull
Beautiful morning out with my youngest today. A bit nippy but great. Started at Newport Wetlands and ended with Goldcliff. Brilliant to bump into Owen again. I think the last time we met was at the Sabines Gull at Rhaslas. Lots of other friendly birders there as well and all distancing. Added...
Nipped down to the North Gower after work today. 4 other birders present at Werffrwd. All distanced and good company.
80. Common Snipe
82. Great Egret
A bit late in the year so none of the hoped for raptors.
Stopped off at Kenfig Pool on my way home from work today. Always good to catch up with Tom and some nice and easy year ticks.
74. White-fronted Goose
77. Sand Martin
78. Cettis Warbler
Cracking day today. Highlight being the smoked free range bacon from Dewi Roberts butchers in Llandeilo. Just the right amount of fat to meat. Smokiness spot on. And the rind was on. Best bacon I’ve had in a long time.
Oh... and the Walrus remained at Tenby :ROFLMAO:
Lovely day out with my youngest yesterday. Started at Dinas which was very quiet but lovely just to be able to walk around. I mentioned later in the day to a Carms birder that the bird table had gone and he said it had been nicked!
Next it was off to Pencarreg. Struggled to get near the pond so...
Wandered down to the Square Pond today with Bud. Year ticked GCG. Beautiful weather here today.
Somebody else enjoying the sun took a real shine to Bud. He sat there giving her his paw and blagged himself a pack of ready salted crisps:ROFLMAO:
Finally managed to see a Rook on Friday. Drove to local B&M to pick up some firewood and there a few in Rhos.
Looking at walking the pup down to Pant y Sais Fen today as the weather is so nice. Fingers crossed for Reed Bunting :D
Me and the boy covered just under 10 miles on the other side of the valley today. Beautiful around Neath Golf club. Stunning Female wire haired Vizsla up there as well.
Good few Buzzards were around along with a couple of Red Kites. Nice to add Kestrel to the year list. Not many around here at...
Bud is over his op now so we headed up to Drummau this afternoon. Nice flock of Winter Thrushes by the old Ack Ack gun placement. And we also put up a Skylark.
Cracking cross Black Labrador/ Lurcher bitch up there as well. Very friendly.
Stayed nearer the house yesterday. An enjoyable circular 4 mile walk.
Plenty of Redwings around and good to hear drumming GSW. For the second time in the last 2 months we saw a Woodcock from this route. Really pleased as it’s not easy at all to see around here. Also picked up Meadow Pipit in...
