Using DS eyepieces for viewing on a ED82 fieldscope?

This the eyepiece cup. Is a tight fit so might be a little difficult to take on and off easily. Works really well though as an eye cup, and looks ok!

Using DS eyepieces for viewing on a ED82 fieldscope?

If the x30 eyepiece diameter is the same as the x75 it should fit, but i dont have the latter so cant be 100% sure. I was emailed the 3D blueprints for the eyepiece, I will see if i can find them and get back to you.

Using DS eyepieces for viewing on a ED82 fieldscope?

Think you can sometimes get the twist eye cups from Japan, but they are expensive for what they are. A forum member gave me instructions to 3D print an eyepiece for the DS x30, it works really well. Depends on whether you know someone with a 3D printer!

Small Bat in Cults, Aberdeen 17/04 & 19/04/23

Likely to be an earlier emerging species. Pipistrelles emerge earlier, noctules even earlier but they are a much bigger species of bat. Pipistrelles typically have a somewhat fluttering flight but if they are commuting it can be straight and direct.

Does anyone know the rules regarding large scale removal of mature trees/ hedgerows in relation to planning/ building?

Hi Andy Strictly the mitigation hierarchy must be followed: avoidance, mitigation, compensation. Offsite habitat compensation should be the 'last resort'. Current policy from DEFRA is that offsite habitat compensation should be created within proximity to the site (i.e within the planning...

Does anyone know the rules regarding large scale removal of mature trees/ hedgerows in relation to planning/ building?

You might want to have a look on your Councils website, some have interactive mapping services were you can search for TPOs, Conservation Areas, planning applications etc

    Pipistrelle at 1.6deg C!

Sometimes bats leave thier winter roosts to drink when they become dehydrated. Could have also been disturbed. Bats also move around winter roosts. We know very little about how British bats hibernate, particularly common pip.

Buying advice for a newbie on a budget.

Try before you buy is definitely good advice. If you can, test binos on a dull and overcast day and observe objects that have a lot of contrasting detail. Most half decent binos present a good image on a bright sunny day. And we have plenty of overcast days in the UK!

Buying advice for a newbie on a budget.

I have just bought my son a pair of Nikon Aculon 7x50, mainly for star gazing, but they are pretty good for the price. The Aculon range comes in a variety of magnifications and objective sizes, prices are variable so you should be able to pick up a new pair of 8x42/10x42 for around £100 if you...

Buying advice for a newbie on a budget.

If you are not too bothered about waterproofing I would go with a porro as you will get better optics for your money compared to a roof.

    Zeiss 3x12 Monocular

Agreed, only use mine to occasionally look at planets on the moon with my son. I have the FL 8X42 so the tripler wld also come in use for that. It ain't worth the £400 price tag alone but the one I have seen locally for much cheaper might be worth a punt. I think it's an older model.

    Zeiss 3x12 Monocular

Fully agree! I have seen one second hand for £120 and wondered whether it was worth a punt.

    Zeiss 3x12 Monocular

Indeed, but in central England light pollution is far more of an issue than seeing conditions!

    Zeiss 3x12 Monocular

Best I can get is Bortle 4 without driving miles. Seeing can be good though, especially in the winter when it's cold and frosty.

Great thank you. Do you use an adapter with the 30x WA? I have the 30x DS and the WA zoom.

    Zeiss 3x12 Monocular

I use my Nikon ED82 for occasional astronomy, particularly looking at Saturn and Jupiter with my son. Just wondering whether the tripler might provide that bit more detail, even if it was for an occasional glance. I also have an FL 8X42.

    Frontier ED-X 10x42 Glare?

My ED-X can be pretty much unusable in very contrasty conditions particularly in the winter, due to the glare. But to be clear I only generally find this to be an issue at dusk or dawn, not so much during the day. There has been a few ED-X owners on this forum who have had similar issues. I...

    Frontier ED-X 10x42 Glare?

My ED-X 10x42 are my car bins now. Interesting enough, I had them out near to dusk at a local nature reserve yesterday. It was fully overcast. But still that frustrating milky wash mostly occurring as half a halo in the lower/middle part of the image. From memory it is not simply bright light...

Natural England is throwing bat conservation under the bus

This is the key issue with how wildlife is protected within the UK, its more focused towards individual animal protection rather than recognising the wider importance a of species populations and ecosystems.

Nikon 8x30 EII Still Worth getting?

EII's are fantastic. I count them as my good weather leisure binocular and look for any excuses to take them out. I don't like the way they hang so less likely to take them on longer walks. Also do not perform as well on dull overcast days. Damp mornings, they certainly stay at home. But if the...

    Nikon ED 50A with WDS 27 40 50 connected to Samsung S22

I bought the Nikon FSB-6 digiscoping bracket and Nikon P5100 camera from eBay - cost me £30. I had to be patient though, it is amazing what some people think a 15+ year old point and shoot camera should be worth.... The bracket is very well made and as you would expect for Nikon parts fits the...
