    They are not calling, you just have to scan the fields and search for eye shine, sometimes they rest on the road. The site is also good for King Rail, but never seen them there, just heard them at sunrise and sunset.

    Down here they are associated with pines, hence my comment, I haven't had a chance to bird that part of the US, so your comment shows how adaptable they are like the Red-bellied Woodpecker down here.
