    Lothian Birding

The scrapes? Is that the Lagoons? We go there with our dog but can't obviously take her round the reserve. Aberfeldy bay...is that on the John Muir Way? I have been there before but I was butterfly spotting :) Today I was in Penicuik. I didn't see much other than a buzzard....I still get a...

Can you point me in the right direction? (Lake district, England)

I went for a walk today in a different part of the country. I heard the same call. It was a pheasant. :) I can't believe that this bird, that I have come across so many times, I have paid such little attention to! It is like discovering a whole new world. :)

Can you point me in the right direction? (Lake district, England)

I did think peacock but I have heard them many times before and never like this. I have sat all night tonight and listened for it and typically it didn't make an appearance! I am going home tomorrow, so may never know :) I haven't ruled out pheasant. It is my best bet so far. However, I am...

Can you point me in the right direction? (Lake district, England)

It sounds like it is on the ground, rather than in flight.

Can you point me in the right direction? (Lake district, England)

Thank you, I looked up the sound a buzzard makes....but no, it was not a buzzard. I am going to have to get myself to the other side of the greenery tomorrow and see if I can see it!

Can you point me in the right direction? (Lake district, England)

There is a bird, close to where I am holidaying. I am in a remote area, with nothing but farmland and hills close by. Every now and then I hear this strange bird call...but I can't see it as there is a wall of greenery between me and it. It sounds like a cross between a duck/goose/chicken but...

Hi there :) I am an absolute beginner....as in ABSOLUTE beginner! Seriously....I get excited at identifying a sparrow! A few weeks ago, I decided to try a mindfulness exercise in my garden (Midlothian) and just take life easy and observe. Wow! I had a wonderful time! I can't believe all this...

Yellow feathered bird in Lake District, England

Thank you everyone! seriously....every single bird is special to me. Recently I had decided to sit in my garden as a sort of mindfulness exercise. Just sit there and observe what was going on. It was incredible! I watched a pair of blackbirds chase off a magpie ...and what a noise they made! I...

Yellow feathered bird in Lake District, England

I have listened to the song of a siskin....it just doesn't sound quite right. It was very high pitched and I was a good distance away.

Yellow feathered bird in Lake District, England

Thank you :) Please bear with me...I am new to all this identifying birds :) I am succesfully managing many....but are siskins not quite small? That was why I discounted it. I think this bird was about blackbird size....but I might be wrong because I was some distance away. I am going to...

Yellow feathered bird in Lake District, England

Again....not very good photos....but you can see it has yellow feathers. I have tried identifying using the RSPB site but it only suggests a wagtail of sorts. It was definitely bigger than that. I saw this at Haweswater resevoir in the Lake District, England.

Rubbish photo....but does anyone know? (Scotland)

Ah, now I did see some swallows here so that is a possibility. Although, the local information states that Kingfishers can be seen in the area too! :)

Rubbish photo....but does anyone know? (Scotland)

Ok....so it is a rubbish photo! It was far away and I am a rubbish photographer! :) This was at Coldingham Bay yesterday, in Scotland. It is its beak that has me puzzled...it seems to go on forever!

Hi. Is this a swallow? (UK)

Hi, I am an absolute newbie to bird watching so please excuse my ignorance. :) I was watching these birds today while at the coast. Coldingham Bay in Borders region in Scotland. I couldn't get very clear pictures of them but for all the details that I CAN get, they seem to me to be swallows...

    Hi there from UK

Hi :) I am an absolute newbie to bird watching....or bird identifying. I started off a few weeks ago, using watching the birds in my garden as a mindfulness exercise. I was stunned at the life going on in my garden that I had not paid attention to before! We don't have any unusual...
