First one is a hawk overlooking a field (Maine)
Third one is a bird in a meadow (VT)
Second one I thought was a blue heron but the head seemed much thicker than the other blue herons I had seen (Maine), last photo is another heron I was comparing the head size to
I was looking out the window today and noticed several crows were milling about in a commercial drive that had been cleared of snow. At this point, the river nearby was mostly frozen over and ground covered in snow. I thought clearing some space of snow might attract them to my yard.
I shoved...
There is a hardware mesh "peanut feeder" I have. Is there any reason I couldn't put sunflower seeds in it since I currently have no peanuts or do the sunflower seeds need to be more protected like in the plastic ones? I'm not too worried if a little seed spills out I guess. I also have a milk...
Hello,
I am interested in recording night bird migrations but the suggested plans seem too complicated for me. I am wondering if I can use the flower pot rig with a digital recording device and store bought mic? Basically, I'd like to find something that I can leave running overnight and then...
I'm thinking of getting the 1.7x teleconverter for this but I've long since thrown away the box. If anyone has used this teleconverter, does everything I need to hook it up come with it? Im concerned there will be some piece that I threw away from the original camera or something I need lol want...
Hello Friends,
I have a sony dsc-h20. It seems I often come up just a little bit short of being able to get a good photo. I am wondering if this adapter (Optics 2.2x High Grade, Super Telephoto ) would be a good help or if I should try digiscoping again? If I add the adapter and lens, I assume...
I live in a suburban area of central CT, there are lots of trees around and a river nearby. I'm thinking of building a birdhouse this winter for something to do. Are there any birds that might nest in my yard given my parameters? Trying to figure out what species to build a house for (if any)
Hello Friends,
I am a beginner birder who really likes owls. I've managed to find some thanks to luck (barred owls) and a couple of field trips to spots where others had found nests. However, I've had terrible luck finding owls on my own.
What's the best way to find them.. like go out at...
HI,
I put up a milk cartoon container with sun flower seeds and a suet feeder. No birds came. I have a lot of trees in the yard but I never see any birds at all.
My current digiscope setup can take great pictures, but the problem is that it simply takes way too long to setup. I bought one of the external adaptors, you know the metal ones that you have to to tighten on to the scope.
I can't leave it on because i need to look through the scope to get...
I am using a trail camera to capture some nocturnal animals' photos. The problem is that when the animal is close to the camera I get an overexposure. The animal and anything close to the bottom hald of the picture is so overexposed all I see is a white flash of light!
Is the problem likely due...
I've built some wooden houses in the past, but I'm intrigued by the PVC bluebird houses I've seen. Here is the thing I do not get: Bluebird box houses are something like 5"x5", so that's 25sq inches (For you metric guys (yes my country is insane and insists on doing this) I think 1"=about 2.5...
I know recordings can work as I've seen abstracts of scientists using them. My question is, from your first hand experience only-- ie not what you read on the net or heard from a friend of a friend -- does this work?
I've hooked an external speaker to my mp3 player and downloaded a titmouse...
Hi guys,
I am a newb at bird songs, so I made a little tool to help me test myself. Basically, on the page I made you hear a sound and then guess. To check your answer, highlight the hidden text in the upper left hand corner of the browser window. Then you hit F5 to refresh the page for the...
I've read that Pileated Woodpeckers make a rectangular cavity. Does it look similar to this? (Sorry I forgot to get dimensions). I found this cavity in MO, USA, at the edge of a large forest.
Cavity shown here
To follow up with my earlier posts, I received the Vortex Universal Adaptor and attached it to the Spacemaster scope. It perfectly aligns the camera and setup takes less than 5 seconds. This is working very well for me and my shots are now centered and shake free. Just wanted to let everyone...
As I ranted in my last thread, I got fed up with my Coolpix 5600 and smashed it to pieces before I ever attached it to the scope as the camera was totally useless in anything other than perfect lighting conditions and every picture was blurry.
I am looking for an inexpensive, all round digital...
