Rolling Ball: what do I do?!

Brilliant suggestion; however I am afraid that it has to be 8x32 for me because the 42s are just too heavy and big. Dammit I am so annoyed

Rolling Ball: what do I do?!

Hi everyone, Sorry if I am repeating here (as this reply is on the 'high end binocular advice needed' thread in the general bin forum). I have just bought a pair of the SVs 8x32 - my choice was between the Zeiss Victory FL T 8x32 and the Swarovisions. The Zeiss were great, but the SVs were...

    High-end binocular advice much needed!

Hi everyone, Not meaning to resurrect an old thread but I made a trip to the bin shop first thing this morning and tried both the Zeiss Victory FL T 8x32 and the Swarovisions. The Zeiss were great, but the SVs were just amazing.... enough that I got them. Whereas the Zeiss were like a very...

    Facebook page: stop bird banding

Hi Hor Kee, I am in no way implying that they are not intitled to free speech. I have nothing against those who are morally opposed to banding/ringing. My problem with this page is that they cherry pick and post opinions as facts whilst ignoring the overwhelming scientific evidence that banding...

    High-end binocular advice much needed!

Hi everyone, Again, sorry to go off the raidar. I am still reading all your comments with great interest and thanks for all the advice. We ust managed to pick up a new pair of 8x42 Nikon Premiers for just over $600 for my boyfriend in the US. I think they are a steal! ...but completely unfair...

    High-end binocular advice much needed!

http://www.bitterwallet.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/pint-of-lager.jpg I have emailed In Focus to see what the deal is with those FLs as that would be great. Already in the UK and all that. I am starting to look more at the Minox APO HG 8x43... which I am sure is just going to add to my...

    High-end binocular advice much needed!

I feel it too!!! CJ you hit the nail on the head. Pint to the first person who answers the question B (: ...and also: do I just get the FLs going on DOUGs ebay now for less than $1299 as a 'just in case'???? I have 4 hours to decide! aaaaah

When you put it like that, yes I also share your opinion. I think it is because it seemed more contrasty that I preferred the view. But the idea of an altered image is not something I like

    High-end binocular advice much needed!

Yes I do think this is surprising and I know it would bother me a little... but whether this would be a lot, I don't know! Thanks for the advice, I sure I compare each bin in bright conditions as much as I plan to try them in dim light I was a bit surprised to find that I didn't really care...

    High-end binocular advice much needed!

George, would you mind clarifying a bit more by what you mean by 'difficult' light - do you mean dim/dark conditions, or bright sun or perhaps where you get a mix of bright sun and shade Frank, thank you for the advice. It is reassuring. I can get the FLs for $1400 or under right not and so I...

    High-end binocular advice much needed!

This is a what I though when I was in the shade towards dusk. I am not sure how I feel about this... I think I need to look more. I want both a natural colour and also good contrast where things 'pop out' as many of you say, and from what I understand, the warmer tones do that.

p.s. everyone's names are all similar in some way, I am finding it hard to keep track of who is who :p

    High-end binocular advice much needed!

Not sure about RSPB ones but all bins (and generally all electronics) are cheaper in the US generally by quite a long way which is why I think I will end up getting them there, the difference it just too much, plus the fact that I plan to move there eventually and so it makes more sense with...

    High-end binocular advice much needed!

dammit I want them now. DOUG has some great offers but I don't know if I could get them shipped to the UK for the next researcher to bring over. If they hold their value then it makes sense to get them now if I can resell for the same if I don't like them or prefer the SVs.... SIGH p.s. sorry...

    High-end binocular advice much needed!

The primary reason why I am thinking of 8x32 is because the size and weight of a 42 bothers me too much, and so much that I am prepared to risk the chance of a slightly darker view at some times as opposed to not enjoying using my bins most of the time. Thanks for stating this. I think I will...

    High-end binocular advice much needed!

Hi Jerry, please could you elaborate on why you prefer the EDG etc in that order? Are these in the 8x32 format and if so, have you had chance to compare them all in low light? A general note to everyone - I hope you do not all feel like I am wasting your time - I know it will come down to which...

    High-end binocular advice much needed!

Thanks David. Yes I don't know what the 'problem' is, and I am not sure I can explain it! It was like you had increased the brightness and decreased the contrast in the area I am talking about, and also added CA at the edge. I suspect that because I am not used to high end bins it is hard to...

    High-end binocular advice much needed!

Thanks :) One thing I would like to say about my (somewhat limited) experience of the 10x42s yesterday is not just the weight but the size. I know they are the biggest FL but still quite near in size to the 8x42. I think a harness would help a great deal with the weight and I will certainly get...

    High-end binocular advice much needed!

Hi everyone and again sorry for a late reply and thanks for your comments. They are really helping. This evening I went out with some FL 10x42s. Firstly, they are amazingly sharp and as I expected have made me even more impatient to get some new bins! Firstly, the 10x is a real treat for the...

    Facebook page: stop bird banding

Hi everyone, I am a ringer from the UK and I have ringed extensively in the US, Costa Rica, Europe and Nigeria. I came across this page some time ago: http://www.facebook.com/Stopbirdbanding To be clear from the start, I do not have a problem with those who do not agree with banding/ringing...

    High-end binocular advice much needed!

Thank you everyone for your advice and options and the welcome. It is really appreciated and you have all helped. Sorry for a late reply, the internet here is sporadic to say the least and so my reply is long! I have a question about 7x42 – this seems like a low magnification and does not seem...

    High-end binocular advice much needed!

Firstly, I will apologise for the length of my post. I know that this topic has been thoroughly discussed but I wanted to ask more specifically to me. I have decided to purchase a pair of high-end binoculars in the view that it is better to do it now and enjoy them for the rest of my life (I’m...

    Ringing - how to start?

Hey there, I've been on quite a few ringing projects and would be more than happy to tell you more about them. I think it's a brilliant way to get more experience. Just get in touch: oscillate.wildly 'AT' gmail.com if you want some more info. Good luck :) Emma
