Buzzards do vary a lot in size, and when the hover they generally hold their wings back , giving the wings a more angular and possible 'tidy' profile.. That would be my guess anyway ;)

Purple Heron Went up to college reservoir in search of the cormerant this afternoon. The search was instantly cut-short when a purple heron :eek!: flew out from the dam end of the reservoir to near the island.

Pendennis I'm not especially experienced when it comes to seawatching, but took a stroll up to Pendennis this morning in faily unfavourable wind conditions. Drake common scoter was the highlight. Also 4 auk sp., 1 med gull. Everpresent gannets did most of the entertaining, although mostly far out.

College reservoir The number of cygnets at college reservoir seems to have gone up from 8 to 9 now! (I guess I must have miscounted them the first 2 times I saw them). Also, a great-spotted woodpecker nest and a nuthatch nest - both in trees next to the path.

College reservoir The swans have got 8 very young cygnets now, they were all floating about in the middle next to their mum while dad was busy chasing the canada geese! Large numbers of swifts too (about 40) flying low over the water and adjacent fields.

Hmm, I think it is a buzzard; sorry for causing any exitement.. The tail is quite short, and black kites generally have a larger wingspan than buzzards, so I think I'll probably forget about that one, sorry. I hate it when trees/bushes are needlessly removed! A check for birds nests etc would...

    Falmouth Birding

Hi Dan, this is gonna be mega controversial, and I'm probably barking up the wrong tree, but I'm getting a hint of black kite in that 'buzzard' photo. (wing shape, face pattern, colour, prominent 'elbow', hint of a forked tail?) I know it seems a little far-fetched, especially as there were...

There's been a RBM regularly just off the pier between Flushing and Trefusis point (just down from where the road turns into footpath). It was there about a week ago when I was there last.

I guess it is a bit worrying having terrapins in college, especially if they are likely to eat grebe eggs etc. Yeah, red-eared I think is the most common invasive terrapin. Yes, apparently dive sometimes while bathing - this one was certainly having an intense washing session!
