joannec is right it is a female but the white markings are not displaced feathers. Many females have white marks on their nape especialy 1st or 2nd year birds, but it lessens as they get older.

Definatly a sparrowhawk. Probably a juvenile bird judging by the white on the back of the head. Juvenile plumages are similare in both sexes and brownish like a female.

Tawny owls often take birds especialy urban owls. Up to the size of thrushes is most common but they can manage larger birds. They most often take roosting birds and it is fairly uncommon for Tawnies to be out during the day unless the young are very hungry.
