    Hi All. I have tried various sources on t'internet and cannot identify this bird, please could you help? Slightly smaller than a Canada Goose but larger than a duck, I saw it on Hawley Lake (Map ref SU840579) today. It landed like a swan. Thanks in advance. Jim

    Thank you both. Nice to put a name to it. Now I have that, Google is my friend. While some may see a Lapwing as obvious, I know that I know nothing and appreciate your help to move on from there. Jim

    Very odd. The wing feathers, the odd & very loud hooping call, the odd soar and fast swoop flight pattern. I saw it last week and it was being harried by a bird of prey (Kite I think). This week it was just flying. It seemed to be ground based, in a field near Uffington, Oxon. Sorry about...
