    hello phil, you are right , that is the sound I heard , never heard a crake before , the area it was in, is open farmland , with dense hedges , near chipping norton , oxfordshire, thank you so much , going to find out more about crakes now !

    hi , no it was not a robin , it was the sort of sound I would say belonged to a larger bird or animal , it was repeated around 12 times then stopped.
