Thanks - just did some measuring of fence post & figure bird is about 17 to 19 inches from tip of tail to top of head. Size seems to fit for Cooper's, but I am a novice so thank you!
The widest part of the fence post top measures 5 1/2 inches wide. So the bird must be approximately 17 to 19 inches from tip of tail to top of head. Thanks again everyone!
Haven't measured the fence post tops yet, but I got some more pics on 4/3 (through a wet window while raining). These finally show better view of back & tail.
Sorry the pics aren't better. I will measure the post as suggested, and post a couple other pics I have at home. Thanks for all the feedback - it's been driving me nuts!

Thank you - didn't realize that! As suggested I will measure post top & post pic taken from same spot of a dove on same post for size reference. The hawk(s) have been visiting our new construction subdivision for a few years that I've noticed. Lots of hunting going on!

I am a beginner - have looked up loads of pics on the internet but still can't tell. I have more pics at home, as well as a pic of a dove sitting on the same post so that may help w/size reference. I'll measure the post top also. Thanks for your help!
