    Gull Uk

Hi Silverwolf, agreed, that is what I am saying, it is not your usual petite Common Gull. I'm not saying I think this is a Ring-billed Gull at all, I know it's not. I'm talking about slight variations from the norm & how it is odd this bird shows a range of slight differences rather than just...

    Gull Uk

Thanks Silverwolf, it wasn't so much the fact that it had the bill-ring, as as you say they often do - it was a bit more obvious than nearby birds though, it was the combination of the details I've posted in my previous reply.

    Gull Uk

Thanks guys, my thinking was that it was probably a regular Common Gull but if there was possibility of RBGull or other in it. Re. DarkFireFalcon - it actually had a yellow iris, which is one thing that grabbed my attention, but because of the fog this doesn't come over well in the photos. I'm...

    Gull Uk

Hi all, take a look at this gull, record pics I forgot I took in a rush. See my notes too for less obvious differences I noticed from regular Common Gulls. What do you lot think about it? Taken on March 12th this year in thick fog in Hemel whilst looking for recently seen Med Gull. If it's...

    Phylloscopus Warbler - Herts, UK

Thanks guys, I just can't decide for sure. Definitely looks Willow Warbler in the head but it has 4 primary emarinations on the wings which points to Chiffchaff!

    Phylloscopus Warbler - Herts, UK

Hi all, this 'Chiffchaff' seems to be having an identity crisis. It was at a disused cress beds in Hemel Hempstead in trees with lots of young chiffchaffs & a single willow warbler. I never saw/heard it call. Pretty much black legs as chiffchaff, yellowish bottoms to feet, very strong...

Ageing of Herring Gull, Hertfordshire UK, September

Hi guys, I'm rubbish at gulls, I'm thinking this Herring Gull at the Water Gardens in Hemel Hempstead this September is somewhere between 1st Summer & 2nd Winter? Am I right or still being rubbish? Thanks, in advance.

    Mystery Birds in Thread Thread

Thanks Jim that's a great start. Whoever designed these used some of their own 'artistic licence' making them hard to ID for sure but I like your ideas. Thanks for the input.

    Mystery Birds in Thread Thread

Hi Guys & Girls, I am trying to unravel the mystery of what species of birds & butterflies are on a set of cushions I have been sent. Take a look at the picasa link below. The birds could be from anywhere in the world but most likely America or Asia. 1) I think the 1st bird is supposed to...

    Yellow-legged Gull (Sheffield, UK)

Hi Pete, i also would have thought that too but i'm not one of these gull pros. it's the face & bill that does it for me. But i couldn't be 100%. looks just like a bird i saw in battersea where there was also an adult ylg. Kind Regards, Dan
