Hi Essexbird,
You should get them from within your hotel complex sitting on the roof - that's the birds sitting on the roof, not you!
I got them from the dirt track that runs past the Can Calluruso restaurant that is situated to the south of your hotel. From that track you can see the spotless...
Hi Liz & Mike,
Strange that we never bumped into each other once when our group (RSPB Edinburgh Local Group) bumped into some birders several times! Back home now as well but a great time had by all -Mallorca still producing the goods.
Best bird of the day for us was a carrion crow near...
Final day on Mallorca apart from heading for airport at stupid o'clock to avoid bike race tomorrow. Another great day booted eagles, loads of pied flys and tawny pipits (Son Real), spotless starlings at Back of Club del Sol. Bee-eaters at Son Bosc with turtle dove.
Gull billed tern at...
Great day up at Cuber reservoir with both vultures, red kites & booted eagles. Loads of spotted flycatchers and two obliging tawny pipits.
Quick trip on back roads around Albufereta tonight got Scops owl by call and barn owl by sight.
Had fabulous day at Albufera yesterday with collared pratincole, night heron, spotted redshank, little stint, marbled duck. All photos are just back of camera shots. Moustached warbler heard and nightingales all over the place with bee-eaters flying over and little bittern fishing as well.
Brian
3 days ago I got the spotted crake in the drainage canal at Albufereta that runs across the marsh about 80 metres out from the tall tower. Also got a bluethroat there.
I also heard bee-eaters at Albufera yesterday.
Boquer finca yesterday: black-eared wheatear, hoopoe, woodchat shrike, com...
Last night a check of previous haunt of Scops owl in P Pollensa ( in front of huge hotel, Style?) proved negative as did entrance to Boquer Valley. One heard in distance from entrance to Lenaire hotel then one very close from road at rear of Albufereta. Stone curlews also vocal.
Earlier...
Arta yesterday; serins everywhere and thekla larks uphill with booted eagles galore.
C'an Carrusa 1st light today ; 6 spotless starlings behind hotel Club del Sol.
Brian
Boquer Valley entrance 1st light. Wryneck, cirl bunting, blue rock thrush, booted eagle & 6 ravens. Plus lots of common stuff.
Re my chiffchaff pics. I will but them on bird ID section when I get home. The ones published here are just iPhone snaps of camera LCD screen. Thanks. Brian
Salobrar de Campos
Hi Marina. You were correct; got 3 gargany at above location today with several other good birds such as 3 little stint and 5+ green sandpiper.
Last spring I photographed a strange 'little egret' that had some grey feathers in it but was mostly white. I'm sure that I've read...
Maristany. 1st light. Common scorer still there. Also barn swallow house and sand marten. No trace of gargany but then it was blowing a gale and I could have missed them. Brian
Albufereta: place dripping with chiffchaff but this one stood out. Uppers almost entirely grey with a slight hint of brown on head and very slight hint of green on wings. Sadly I didn't hear it call.
There are 2 Siberian chiffchaffs in Edinburgh at moment, both of which have more green than...
Formentor Mirador : ridiculously tame Alpine accentor showing well to hoards of tourists today - who ignored it! (This brings my accentor total to 3 in 6 months - having got the Black Isle Siberian accentor. )
Added bonus was a male blue rock thrush who serenaded the throngs - who again ignored...
Albufereta yesterday was good as mentioned above. 20+ green sandpiper, 3 little stint. Alas no marbled duck or little bittern. Is it possible to post location of hotel where one is being seen?
A first for me at Albufera was a reed bunting. Several water pipits about.
C'an Carussa area very...
Albufereta, first light. Pools crammed with ducks! RC pochard, wigeon, pintail, mallard, teal, gadwall, shelduck & shoveler. Fly over marsh Harrier scattered a few. Swamp hen ignored it. Water rail heard but not seen. Wonderful as usual!
Albufereta early morning had water rail and water pipit. Male black redstart showing well at rear of hotel.
Visit to Son Real was mixed bag. Got firecrest, Sardinian warbler, crossbill and thekla Lark but no sign of Dartfortd or Baeleric warbler. Perhaps I needed to go further west, just east...
La Gola:loads of chiffchaffs about and at least 2 black redstarts. Off shore, usual Audouin's gulls with Sarnie terms and local races of shag and cormorant. Cetti's and stone curlew from hotel balcony near Albuferreta. Lovely! Brian.
Thanks Mike & Martin. Just arrived at hotel and had 2 Audouin's gulls fly over as I had my first drink. Lifer for my mate. Cheers.
I know the Maristany site but had never heard it called Prat d'Alcudia so that's all good - I'm not missing a site! Thanks for Lluc info, I hope to try it out on...
Hi Mike, keep up the good work. I may not post much but I always keep up with what's about on Mallorca thanks to many of your posts.
I'm flying out tomorrow for a week's R & R and I have a few questions.
Where is the Harrier roost exactly? It may be obvious, of course, but I would like to...
Casas Vellas mid-day: pied flycatcher
La Gola afternoon: male redstart showing well & osprey flew over
S'Albufereta afternoon: 2 ospreys, 2 Bonelli's warblers, wood warbler & subalpine warbler
That's my week finished on the island, sadly, but I've had a great time (on what was not a birding...
