    Hi. I frequently hike in natural reserves with hides and shelters for viewing birds. The optimal setup for bird photography here would probably be a 500mm f/4.5 with 1.4x / 2x but I doubt I'll ever drag that around even if I can afford it. My usual setup is a 300mm F4, with 1.4x and 1.7x tcons...
