Thanks for the help. The call was what I was hoping could be ID'ed the most as I don't believe I've ever heard it but I have the species. After comparing this song with the ones on the internet I agree, a scarlet tanager.
I recorded this call using the video record feature on my camera, the video revels nothing except the bird's habitat and the noise it made. The bird picture is what I believe to be a juvenile yellow-bellied sapsucker but confirmation is needed. The last picture is a salamander, I believe it to...

Thanks for the help everyone, the sparrow had me pretty stumped, I didn't think it was a song sparrow. I had the sandpiper narrowed down between greater or lesser but couldn't decide which.
Thanks for the quick reply. I'm embarrassed that I didn't figure that out on my own, when I first spotted one my immediate reaction was that it was a bluebird but as I watched them I decided they didn't look quite right; the color and seemly small size I guess. Had bluebirds not been nesting in...
Huh, that's odd. I'm the one who spotted the tanager on the 16th (December) and posted about it. Now we have not only one but two sightings of them where they're not supposed to be.
I buy a 25 lb bag of black oil sunflower seeds and a 25 lb bag of scratch grain marketed towards poultry (contains cracked corn, millet etc.) about once a month, in total it costs me about $28.00 and it feeds just about every bird I could hope to attract. I also use suet cakes. I agree, keep it...
Yeah, I knew where they are supposed to be, that's why it struck me as odd. I was under the impression that these guys migrated fairly early. I went ahead and filled out the form and contacted my local bird club who also happens to run the CBC. I gotta admit I'm excited, though other people not...
Last week my wife told me she saw a large yellow bird sitting in the yard, I didn't get to see it but she said it wasn't a finch, she thought it was an orioles. Personally, I hoped it was an evening grosbeak. As it turns out it was none, just about an hour ago we spotted it again, sitting in a...
I recently had a dream that I was witness to a massive mixed flock migration and using my binoculars I was able to identify most of them despite their high altitude. Everything from bald eagles and tricolored herons to chickadees and hummingbirds all flying together, they blotted out the sun.
I bought the book back when I first started bird watching, after getting chickadees to feed I kinda gave up on the pursuit. I need to try it again, would love to add tits, nuthatches and others to the list.
