Yeah, it’s been a while Martin! I’ve done no birding, to talk of, at all this year. Had to do a double take when I first read about you doing a bike list! Walking maybe, but didn’t expect the cycling bit! Are you just listing Derbyshire or anywhere you can reach? I’ve been putting in more...

Martin, what "rules" have you set yourself for the bike list? MAY be tempted to take you on with it next year! :eek!: Any idea how many miles you've put in? Rich

Nice bit of video there Chris! Wish I'd had time to give the SEO another try this weekend but couldn't fit it in. Looks like we were in the right place last weekend after looking at the video... may try again next weekend if it hangs around.

Hi Chris, Yes, it was me at Shipley. Sorry I didn't work out it was you but I wasn't at my best yesterday morning at all! You'll have worked that one out from my blog post! I've just read your info on the location of the SEO and it sounds like we were more or less ok where we were. Pity the...

American Adventure SEO.... Hi, I'm thinking of trying for the SEO tomorrow morning and am trying to work out the easiest way to approach this. Having looked at Google Earth I guess I'll have to park on Pit Lane (I take it the entrance to American Adventure area is closed off?) and then walk...

Took a trip over to Ilkeston this morning - no sign of the Waxwings between 10:00am and 11:45am. Still plenty of food there for them though, so they may well be back!

I remember Etwall well. Pity it is no more! The area was also a good site for Corn Bunting - you try finding one in the county now! :-O

Thankfully it is NOT the Willington Gravel Pits we all know (and love) that is becoming a marina! That one is at the other end of the village and is almost ready for it’s grand opening - September 13th I think. I missed the Wood Sandpiper at Willington yesterday morning too. I think it left...

They were the days! Still a lot going on at Willington these days, but I do miss the "old place". It's never been quite the same since the bank on the left of the lane was removed... and the old plank we used as a seat! :-O As for the egrets - taken me all these years to add them to my...

Evening! Bit of a strange local record yesterday morning... the wife spotted a Hobby hunting over the bottom of Raynesway / Blue Peter Island at 8:30am. Thought at first that it would be a “flyover” but it was definitely hunting over the area for a while! Any one else over come across Hobby...

:-O They looked a lot better flying over Willington! Well, at least they did to me! Little Egret has been a species I've wanted on my Willington list for years and I finally got it yesterday! At 7:40am I located one egret from "platform 3" on the DWT reserve but it only stayed a very short...

I guess I was just lucky - a good friend of mine went for the falcon on Friday and gave me clear directions of where to go. I must admit I didn't take too much notice of the web site directions and I "don't do pagers"! :-O

Hi Richard. Yes, it was me that you saw. I was lucky enough to be at the site early on Saturday and managed to locate the bird sat out on the barbed wire fence by the old cattle shed. I saw the first path across the river but, acting on directions given to me by a friend, I carried on along the...

    Birds and bikes

I’ve not taken the step into doing “real” birding by bike just yet but I do use my bike to commute to work and back and I do stop off at my local park/lake most days to check on the birds there. So far, I’ve recorded 44 species on or around a small city park and lake. It’s not a huge total but...

I didn't see a pale Buzzard at Ingleby today, just a normal Common Buzzard, but there has been a very pale bird at Willington on and off for a while now. It's been reported as a "possible Rough-legged" a few times. Not saying that that was your bird but it's a possible.

Cracking photos! And a cracking bird! :t: It showed well first thing this morning - 7:00AM - but it did look to be up against it a bit with the strong wind! A Red Kite also spent a short time soaring over the village at around 9:30AM.
