Nikon Announces the P1000 Superzoom 3000mm

The P1000 has a manual focusing ring just to be clear. Other notable improvements besides the extra 1000mm equivalent include a much-improved viewfinder, RAW shooting, 4K video, hotshoe, external mic input, an auto/manual focus switch, and a newer processor (Expeed 4 vs the P900's Expeed C2)...

83x anyone? The new Nikon P900

The Auto mode is good, however Program mode is essentially a customisable Auto mode. You can change settings such as sharpness and set limits on maximum ISO.

83x anyone? The new Nikon P900

I've owned a P900 for almost a year now and regret nothing, coming up from using the Canon SX40 for five years. I've gotten shots I wouldn't have been able to with the SX40, largely thanks to the greater focal range, far more usable viewfinder, and better responsiveness overall. I have it on...

Just a quick through-the-window shot of a Black Redstart, sighted in my garden in West Yorkshire.

    P900 replacement rumor

I'm very satisfied with what I've gotten so far with the P900, all I could ask for really is a better viewfinder as others have said. Personally though, I'd love for the 1-inch sensor superzooms to keep developing to a point where they can hit close to 1000mm equivalent, though the lens on that...

83x anyone? The new Nikon P900

After much deliberation, I finally decided to upgrade from the SX40 to the P900. I'm aware that a successor may be announced in the coming months, but wanted to take advantage of the summer weather while I can. I definitely appreciate the more eye-friendly viewfinder, and don't particularly mind...

    FZ2000 Manual focus.

I believe that would be the "focus peaking" feature. It's a visual display of what is in focus (through highlighting the edges of what the camera is focused on), hence is very useful for manual focus as without the feature, it can sometimes be difficult to determine whether the focus is tack sharp.

    P900 replacement rumor

Personally I'd settle for less reach (1200-1400 equivalent would be fine), and rather have features such as RAW capability, 4K video, and a viewfinder more akin to those found on 1-inch sensor superzooms (2.4 million dot 0.4 inch as opposed to 921k dot 0.2 inch). The Nikon B700 shoots RAW and...

83x anyone? The new Nikon P900

Thanks for the insight, I don't intend to purchase anything until the summer so we shall see. One piece of information I've been unable to find on the P900 is how many focus points it uses. Could anyone enlighten me or is it not clear?

83x anyone? The new Nikon P900

Has anyone been able to compare a shot at 2000mm equivalent from the Nikon P900, and a shot at 400mm equivalent from the Panasonic FZ1000 that's been cropped to match the P900 shot? I'm torn between the two at the moment, as they're in a 'somewhat' similar price range, the camera I've used for...

    SX40 Super Zoom

I went to Orlando, Florida for two weeks with the good old SX40. I'm still impressed by its capabilities, and versatility. There are too many photos to post here, so I'll direct anyone interested to my Flickr account. I've uploaded twelve photos from the holiday so far, and will be uploading six...

    SX40 Super Zoom

I'm lucky enough to live near Fairburn Ings, where Kingfishers aren't too difficult to find. Getting a good picture of one is another thing entirely though.

    SX40 Super Zoom

An excellent shot of a juvenile Green Woodpecker there! I've never seen one before (adult or juvenile). Last Sunday I went to the Hardraw Force waterfall in the Yorkshire Dales, and managed to get shots of a Dipper and a Grey Wagtail. It was good weather, but the humidity didn't make it easy...
