    Original Tim Wootton, anyone?

Hi, fellow bird art lovers! I know this is not the 'for sale' forum, so I won't go into details, but I have two original Tim Wootton water colours for sale. I've posted a message on the appropriate forum: https://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=367461 It's a shame they are gathering dust...

    Chiffchaff song UK - Tristis?

Thanks both! However, the plot thickens. This image shows the bird. It was taken by another birder who was there when I discovered the bird. He kindly emailed me the picture later in the day. The problem is: it shows a much greener bird than how I remember it... Some of the green is the result...

    Chiffchaff song UK - Tristis?

Hi all, I recorded this Chiffchaff on my local patch in York this morning. Sounds good for Siberian Chiffchaff (Tristis)? Notably the bird was rather greyish on top and white underneath, with pitch black legs. But these Chiffchaffs are tricky! Any opinions appreciated. Thanks, Jan

Just Bewick's Swans? - Boyton, Suffolk

Is it me, or is the bird in the first photo ringed?

    Unknown Bird (species ?)

Hi Ed, As a Dutch national dwelling on the British Isles I don't know if I am allowed to respond... your anti-island attitude puzzles me just as much as your description of the bird. However, your last photograph definitely shows a Common Whitetroat (or 'Grass Sparrow' as you call them!)...

    Butea butea?

Butea Butea has orange flowers. I can't see any. Perhaps this is a Buteo Buteo? :-)

    Archibald Thorburn prints

Hello fellow bird art lovers, I recently managed to buy two rare signed Archibald Thorburn prints, but I have no place for them in the house at the moment. Because they are quite valuable I've offered them for sale on the classifieds forum of this website. Just lowered the price. Anyone...

    Durham Birding

It must be on it's holidays! Oosterpark is a typical urban park, full of feral pigeons and 'soep eenden' ('soup ducks', as we Dutch birders call them).

And rightly so! I thought this was a forum about birds in Durham... Thanks to whoever deleted all that silly b*tching.

    Strange gull

Have you got any pictures with more than one bird in view? For size comparison?

    Durham Birding

I agree! I love the picture, but somehow the Spoonbil looks like a miniature bird. Is the size of the rainrops and weeds in the background distorted by the tele photo perspective? If the weeds weren't yellow I would have thought they were trees! Nevertheless an excellent picture.

UK, Stockton-on-Tees. A bird that sounds like a Sandwich Tern?

Thanks for the replies. As Phil said, the call was quite unmistakable, but I wasn't aware of the overland migration. A rather unexpected garden tick!

UK, Stockton-on-Tees. A bird that sounds like a Sandwich Tern?

I am very confused! I just heard a bird calling while it flew over (it's dark, so I didn't see it). The flight call sounded like Sandwich Tern to me. But we live about 10 miles from the sea... Any suggestions as to what other bird this might have been? Thanks, Jan

Nightjars? Hiya, I read on the TBC website that Nightjars have been seen again at Guisborough Forrest. Tonight seems like a good night to try and find them, but Guisborough forrest is quite big... Can someone PM me the precise coordinates of the 'the large cleared area at the eastern end'...

I did see the female Mandarin today. It was asleep on the bank across the water, at about 3pm.

The Willow Tit is ringed. Have you got more photo's? With some luck you might be able to figure out what it says on the ring. In that case you could find out for sure if it's a Willow or a Marsh Tit.

    UK/Bird song/ID please

Imo this is not a Wren or a Nightingale. The song of a Nightingale should be more varied in melody/composition. The song of a Wren should be much 'sharper' and 'mechanical' in tone than this bird. What I mean is that this bird sounds like it is 'whisteling', while a Wren sounds like a musical...

Leucistic Herring Gull - Teesside - UK

I have to confess I was one of those birders. It was only after I had shown these pictures to Toby at the RSPB that I found out about the local Herring Gull. However, there was another (immature) Iceland Gull present at the Cowpen Bewley tip today. I did double check with another birder, just to...

    Durham Birding

That's what I thought when I saw it for the first time last year. However, it's far too big to be a Snow Goose. Aparantly it's been around every winter for a couple of years now.
