A friend of mine found a bird ring in a local wooded area. Its a fairly large ring with the brand name DETKER on it. the number reads 16,OR and theres smaller fainter letters i think read SYSI. I live in north Co,Dublin Ireland if that helps. there doesnt seem to be any country of origin printed...
Hey guys I got to report the ring eventually! I havent got the full details back yet regarding who and where it was rung by, But I have been told that the bird was rung in 2006 which is amazing! I guess that would be a great age for a Chaffinch. Thanks again for all the help.
Hi Im just wondering if anyone could help me I.D. a ring I found on a dead female chaffinch. I assume the bird hit my window and died.It has a silver metal ring and the Info is as follows: BRIT. MUSEUM. LONDON S.W.7 V094701 I hope there is someone on here that would know something about this...
I cant see the Gardai being able to do much about the poisonings to be honest. A lot of rural stations have been closed in the last week due to cut-backs so there will be even less gardai to deal with more problems. I think education is key and as a previous post says, maybe a Gigrin style...
I would of thought its a Red Kite. I think some of the Kites released in Dublin headed west for a whille, It doesnt have a deep fork in the tail so maybe its a young bird?
I have a ringed female Chaffinch coming to my garden for the past 3 winters. Is it possible that this is indeed the same bird? The ring is a silver metal ring I cant make out what it says on it. Im in north co.Dublin any info would be greatly appreciated!
Hi guys.Every winter for the past 3 years I have a female Chaffinch coming to the garden that has a silver metal ring on her left leg, Is it possible that it could be the same bird? Im in north Co, Dublin does anyone know of any ringing of finches in the area or ringing of them in general. thanks
I suppose it all makes sense that the older hawks deal with prey in a much cleaner fashion. I saw a sparrowhawk take down a large woodpigeon early this morning it only took maybe less than two minutes to kill it. She then dragged the pigeon in behind some laylandii to eat it in peace(away from...
Im not sure that this is either a spar or a gos feather. It looks a bit broad to be from a hawk and maybe the wrong colouring. I think its more like a buzzard type feather but im open to correction!!
Bottom line is guys... who gives a toss about the phesants? The only reason we have them in our countryside is because they are let out for the so-called "upper-class" to shoot (wheres the fun in that?) anyway. Its a damn disgrace if DEFRA go through with it.
This is 100% a juv Red Kite guys. I saw one of our introduced Kites here the other day (they`er roughly a year old now) and it looked exactly the same as that kite in the picture, same flight feathers missing and all!!
I feel embarassed about the level of poisoning still going on in this country. It is shameful in the extreme. The narrow-mindedness and pure ignorance of some farmers here is unbelievable. There is nothing I would like more than seeing these spectaclar birds re-introduced successfully here, but...
Woodpigeon
Hi it is indeed a young woodpigeon and too young to feed itself. Unless you can manage to find the nest and pop it back into it, you will have to hand-feed it. You literally have to open the bird`s mouth and drop a few grains of wheat or barley in at a time and squirt water down the...
