  1. Northern Cardinal

    Northern Cardinal

I really like the colors of this bird. But this is one of the only photos i've gotten of a male cardinal, since they seem to be very shy about perching on the feeder and don't remain still for long. Instead, they seem to prefer to forage on the ground on seeds that the woodpeckers scatter...

I've always found it creepy how their wing bones seem to be made up of four elongated fingers and a thumb... almost like a human hand! A wonderful capture.
  3. Hanging around

    Hanging around

This fox squirrel has been around our house for years. We've called it the "pet" since he has become fairly tame from seeing us around the house and will rarely budge when we walk by him. He likes to hang out of his tree as in this picture above as well as drape his tail over that...
  4. Baby bird

    Baby bird

Lately there seems to be a lot of bird eggs hatching in nests near my house. This seemed strange to me since i'd always thought that most birds nested in the spring. One bird created a nest last year under our roof and repeated it once again this year. We came out one day and saw baby birds...

What do FZ18 users think of there Camera?

I've been very pleased with the FZ18 so far. You can see some of the better pictures i've gotten in my gallery. Haven't had time to use it for a lot of bird pictures yet, though, so i've also got some close up macro shots of wildflowers and a few other odds and ends using the camera.

Do these birds change colors throughout the year? The only feral pigeons I had found in photos were gray colored rather than rust colored.
  8. Feral Pigeon

    Feral Pigeon

I can't seem to find a bird photo to identify this fellow, but it looks like it might belong to the dove family. It is perching on a pipe next to the dam.
  9. Rock Dove

    Rock Dove

I believe this is a rock dove, even though most rock doves in photos i've seen have gray wings instead of black/white.
  10. Great Blue Heron

    Great Blue Heron

This bird was in heaven. They were running the turbines at the dam and fish were piled up on the water at the bottom of the dam like sardines in a can.
  11. Lightning bolts

    Lightning bolts

I went outside last night and noticed lightning from a storm about 100 miles away. Decided to set up my camera and try a night shot for the first time. I wasn't too sure what settings to use. Couldn't make out anything in the LCD. This was the last one I took before giving up, and it...

    Ruby-throated Hummingbird

This is the sharpest photo i've captured so far using telephoto on the FZ18.

    Puffed up hummingbird

This is a male ruby-throated hummingbird. Not sure why the ruby throat is missing nor why he is puffed up. Trying to impress the ladies I guess.
  20. Two birds

    Two birds

I believe the one on the right is a female brown-headed cowbird. Not sure on the left bird though. I assumed it was another female when taking the picture, but it looks quite different. Anyone recognize it?

Great shot. It's a beautiful bird. Wish we had those around here.

  25. Brown-headed Cowbird

    Brown-headed Cowbird

This bird is known for laying its eggs in the nests of other bird species, often tricking the other birds into caring for its offspring as if it were their own. Quite an ugly thing to boot, but I try not to discriminate.
