Here's the close-up shot showing more details of the deformed bill. Not sure if it's been damaged or whether it was born like this. It seems to be surviving, so hope the extreme cold that is heading our way, doesn't kill off the birds. There will be snow Sunday night and freezing temperatures.

Took a walk on Christmas Day afternoon and found this stunning male Wood Duck in the middle of a pond on a neighbor's ranch. The lighting was perfect! We often see a pair of Wood Ducks fly over our property, heading in the direction of this ranch, but there was no female with him this time.
We've only had a couple of sightings of the Red-breasted Nuthatches in Central Texas this year! Maybe there will be more if the weather gets really cold up north!! You've caught yours in a great pose! TFS!
A late Ruby-throated Hummingbird stopped in our garden for some R&R on its migration south, on 8th November. Fortunately we still had lots of scarlet sage plants in flower and a hummingbird feeder, but it didn't go to the feeder at all.
Thought we were going to get some desperately needed rain in October, but these interesting looking clouds were just for show!! We have finally had some good amounts of rain over the last 3 days, which is great for the birds, though we are not seeing as many species at the bird baths now!
