Hermit Thrush with a damaged bill

Here's the close-up shot showing more details of the deformed bill. Not sure if it's been damaged or whether it was born like this. It seems to be surviving, so hope the extreme cold that is heading our way, doesn't kill off the birds. There will be snow Sunday night and freezing temperatures.

    Hermit Thrush with damaged bill

This is the Hermit Thrush with the damaged bill. It must be able to get enough to eat, as I've been seeing it for a few weeks. I'll post a close-up next
  5. Hermit Thrush

    Hermit Thrush

We've been seeing this Hermit Thrush a lot this winter. We've also had one with a deformed bill, which seems to be feeding OK. I'll upload 2 photos of it next.

Excellent capture of this bobcat, Zack. We have them on our property in south-central Texas, but I've only once seen a female with 2 large kittens!
  7. Peacock Butterfly

    Peacock Butterfly

In 2013 we had a trip back to the UK to visit family and friends. While we were staying in Yorkshire, our friends recommended visiting the Nosterfield Local Nature Reserve, a small reserve a few miles away. Plenty of birds as well as butterflies.
  8. Eastern Bluebirds

    Eastern Bluebirds

We had 10 Eastern Bluebirds visit our birdbath a few days ago. I think this is the largest group we've seen in the last few years.

  11. Greater Roadrunner

    Greater Roadrunner

We occasionally get Roadrunners in our garden, hunting for geckos and small birds. They will hide in the bushes near the bird feeders hoping to catch something. We were sitting on our patio, about 6 yards (5.5 m) away, and it stopped, looked at us for a few seconds before jumping up onto the...

Comment by 'HelenB' in media 'I don't know for sure the name of this bird'

I think it’s a fluffed up Pine Siskin! You can just see a little yellow along the edge of wing! Or maybe a female House Finch? Happy New Year!

  14. Wood Duck

    Wood Duck

Took a walk on Christmas Day afternoon and found this stunning male Wood Duck in the middle of a pond on a neighbor's ranch. The lighting was perfect! We often see a pair of Wood Ducks fly over our property, heading in the direction of this ranch, but there was no female with him this time.

We've only had a couple of sightings of the Red-breasted Nuthatches in Central Texas this year! Maybe there will be more if the weather gets really cold up north!! You've caught yours in a great pose! TFS!

We hadn't seen a Tree Creeper in our garden for several years, so it was great to see one so easily and get some good photos!
  21. Ruby-throated Hummingbird

    Ruby-throated Hummingbird

A late Ruby-throated Hummingbird stopped in our garden for some R&R on its migration south, on 8th November. Fortunately we still had lots of scarlet sage plants in flower and a hummingbird feeder, but it didn't go to the feeder at all.

    Storm clouds

Thought we were going to get some desperately needed rain in October, but these interesting looking clouds were just for show!! We have finally had some good amounts of rain over the last 3 days, which is great for the birds, though we are not seeing as many species at the bird baths now!
