    A strange 8x32 choice.

Well now! I think I may just have to look into this 'extra', price notwithstanding. I guess my only negative is that price which, for an accessory, is very dear. If it makes such a difference, I guess I'll have to look into it (so to speak...).

    A strange 8x32 choice.

A month or so in, and the NLs are proving a pleasure to use. The strengths that have become apparent after a few weeks of birding are not necessarily quite what I expected. The optics are lovely and I've so far appreciated the bit of extra reach the 10x give me over 8x though I like that extra...

    Braemar in late April

I'm off to the Cairngorms for a couple of days at the end of April and was wondering if anyone knew the good areas to see interesting species. I'm guessing capercaillie will be tricky, but cresties, parrot crossbills, ptarmigan etc should be possible I'd hope. I'm based in Braemar and will be...

    A strange 8x32 choice.

So, I went for the NLs in the end. They were used but in terrific condition and I can see where you're coming from...very elegant indeed, even in the more traditional green. I've not yet had time to give them a proper run out, but my first impression is that these will complement my sf 8x42s...

    Zeiss T*FL 8x32 v Zeiss Conquest 8x32 - discuss!

I've enjoyed a couple of years with my Conquests but have decided to trade them in for, possibly, a pair of used Fls. Those just arrived with me today and confirmed me in my suspicion that it would be a lighter and ergonomically easier instrument to travel with. In late winter afternoon light...

    A strange 8x32 choice.

Then again, I haven’t yet held and seen through the fls and, being a dyed in the wool Zeiss nut, who knows?

    A strange 8x32 choice.

Very good colour for a Dutch birder! If I buy it will be green or green...but I would have considered orange if it had been available.

    A strange 8x32 choice.

I feel nudged towards the nls. A few fl aficionados are keeping that idea afloat but I know the view through that instrument will have to be super good to beat the nl. Well, it's not going to, let’s face it. The fl will have to feel much nicer than the nl which I already think rests so easily...

    A strange 8x32 choice.

Realistically, my choice is between Zeiss fl 8x32, and nl Pure 10x32 as both are being offered at good prices, and having just forked out on a new lightweight scope, I have half an eye on my pocket. I love my sf 8x42s and I may go for the harness option when my body can't take the strain of...

    A strange 8x32 choice.

That looks like a good option. Maybe I'll only need my 8x42s after all!

    A strange 8x32 choice.

With a used pair of Zeiss Fl 8x32 on their way to me to try out, I wonder how they compare with the SFLs. From this thread and opinions more generally, I get the impression the Fls are treasured by their owners...but that doesn't mean they've not been improved on. And it looks to me as though...

    A strange 8x32 choice.

You've got a point, but after 7 or 8 years, I've never felt any need or desire to upgrade my 8x42 sfs. It's just that 8x32 (or 10x32) slot, and that's becoming more significant as I move on towards late middle age...weight of instrument in other words.

    A strange 8x32 choice.

Inevitably for such fine binoculars, each has its admirers. In the end it will be the relationship between my unique pair of eyes and each instrument that will determine my choice. Maybe, too, the ergonomics of the binoculars which, as well, will be a question of my physical self in relation...

    A strange 8x32 choice.

You said FL 10x. I got you mixed up with NLs. I am hoping I fall in love with FLs too. It would be so convenient!

    A strange 8x32 choice.

I have to say that when I held and looked through the NLs I did fall in love with them!

    A strange 8x32 choice.

It's like I said, practicality v optics. They're both going to be great optically with the NLs likely to be a bit better...but if the FLs are lighter and more compact while the others feel too heavy...well, it's a trade-off one way or the other. Lots of ifs, but it could end up being a crystal...

    A strange 8x32 choice.

I'll be very interested to compare the image in a well-used Zeiss FL with a pristine Swaro Pure. A complicating factor is the magnification with FL 8x32 and NL 10x. I guess I won't know until I've looked through and held both...not sure I'll even know then!

    A strange 8x32 choice.

There's the option of a headrest for the NLs. That would steady the image but my gut instinct at needing one isn't very positive. I'm looking for light weight portability after all. Everywhere I see FLs mentioned they come with comments of great affection; no one seems to want to part with...

    A strange 8x32 choice.

I think what you say makes a lot of sense. I have to ask myself why I am replacing those Conquests and it's primarily a question of weight and size, neither of which would be addressed by the NLs (and both of which would be by the FLs). When I handled and looked through the NLs I was...

    A strange 8x32 choice.

Any reflections on this issue would be useful to me. Up to this point I have loved using Zeiss binoculars and still do - my 8x42 SFs are sublime. I bought a pair of Conquest 8x32s a little while ago and have enjoyed those too, though they lack the optical excellence of the SFs of course -...

    New NL pure 10x32 owner

Thank you. I think the dealer is likely to have one in the shop when I next drop by, so I'll do just that. That's very helpful.

    New NL pure 10x32 owner

Thinking of picking up some 10x32s NLs at a good price. They'll complement my Zeiss SF 8x42s in an interesting way I hope. If I take the plunge, is the headrest a good idea? I have steady hands but haven’t had any 10x since a pair of Trinovid 10x42 many years ago. And they were fine if...

    Retail outlets in UK

On impulse I dropped by Focus Optics and tried out some Conquest 8x32 but was also plied with a couple of second hand Swaros and a UV. All good but the Conquest was precisely what I wanted so that's what I came away with. Thanks for the suggestion Lee and it was your suggestion first time...

Fair point. I'd be more than happy to pay a fee though, maybe a significant one if it were to be offset against eventual purchase. Thanks for your thoughts. I do see your point.
