    What's your most used binocular?

Most-used overall - Swaro EL-SV 8x32. It's not my favorite bino, but I use it the most because it's ER lets me use it w/sunglasses. I live in very bright areas. Most-used this past year - Leica 7x35 Retrovid. No particular reason - I just like it. Plus it is fun to watch other birders...

    The elusive Trogon

Sorry for the late reply. I was back in TX. I still haven't gotten the chance to get over to Madera, but hopefully will do so soon. We were on the wait list for build slots in Quail Creek last year, but happened to find a house for sale in Tubac. Really liked the amenities in QC, which we...

    The elusive Trogon

We purchased a house just south of Green Valley at the end of last summer. Haven't had the chance to hike in Madera, but after reading your post, I am going to try to make it in the next day or two. Did you find a house? GV is a nice and sedate place, with housing prices that span a huge...

    Love watches!

OK - so I'm a year and a half late to the party, but man I really like that Helson! Looks like it would be extremely easy to read without wearing the reading glasses. Has it proven reliable since you have had it? I'm also rather partial to dive watches as well. I need to get some pics up...

Curio 7x21 vs. CL 8x25 pocket.

If by chance you are prior military/first responder, you can get a very good discount at Eurooptic.com. They are good people to deal with. If you do not qualify for the above, then you should still call them anyway. Good chance that they will beat the other competitors. Michael is the person...

Better birding tool, Leica Retro or MHG

Remember that he is the one that asked about what he doesn't know. And I answered. And besides, if he decides to take a specific swipe at people who choose not to use their Retrovid in the rain just because he happens to have some sort of sense of superiority due to his willingness to use a...

OK - you've twisted my arm enough. I'm buyin' one......

Better birding tool, Leica Retro or MHG

I wouldn't argue your points above one bit, and in fact fully agree with them. But now, you will hopefully have a better handle on what people here are and are not actually afraid of. Remember - you are the one who asked about what you don't know, and judging by your post #13 above, it was a...

Ahh yes - that Jane Goodall tramp!

Better birding tool, Leica Retro or MHG

What you evidently don't know is that at no place on this forum has someone demonstrated "fear of wearing retros in regular, typical, field conditions". Second thing you don't know is that someone stating a preference for when he or she wants to use any particular binocular from their...

Better birding tool, Leica Retro or MHG

We also have both. I prefer the Leica's overall view over the MHG, and since the view is the most important thing for me, it is for me the better birding binocular. Unless it is raining.......

    seeking chest harness recommendation

I doubt that you are doing anything wrong. I think that the easiest thing to do would be to attach a leash from the bottom part of the back of your harness to the top of the back of your pants (or belt, if wearing one - I will just assume you are wearing pants....). Something like a hat leash...

    seeking chest harness recommendation

Op/tech makes an entire system of harnesses and straps, including ones that do not stretch and that can hold a great amount of weight. I use them for heavy binoculars, and also my Canon dslr w/large telephoto which is too much weight to hang from my neck. They all use the same connectors, so...

Swarovski @ NW Ohio Birding Rules Manufactures !

Land Sea & Sky are good people. We have purchased several binoculars from them at their shop in Houston. Great place for astro equipment too. Congrats on the new binos!!

Maven B1.2 or Meopta MeoPro Air?

The UHD is not worth $2400. They are merely priced that way. The real-world purchase price of a 50mm UHD is about $1575. Or about $1485 if one is lucky enough to have a military discount. It does not come as a surprise that the Vortex does cost a bit more than their rivals. They have always...

Maven B1.2 or Meopta MeoPro Air?

The above is correct. There is indeed a retail markup. There has to be, since they are a for-profit company. Maven gets to keep more of that markup since they don't sell to a distributor. Given that Maven's binos are sold at full retail, their profit per unit must be quite high. Good idea...

    Looking to upgrade binoculars

One other thing - about the Nikon EII. Extremely good binocular, but as Nikon USA does not import them, you would have to buy from another country, and that means you would most likely have zero warranty support from Nikon. This could be quite important to someone who "values warranty" such as...

    Looking to upgrade binoculars

For your purposes, a good 32mm is fine. I like the 8x30 Nikon Monarch 7. It does have a rather short ER, but it provides a very nice view that is bright, wide, and sharp. The Traveller seems to be a very similar binocular, but according to B&H's website, has a lot more ER. If you wear...

    First time binocular advice please.

A Genesis for $499 is quite a steal. Normal price was more than double that. Just be careful though, as there are websites that label the BDII-XD as a "Genesis", and the BDII-XD is a much less proficient binocular. Not a bad binocular, but not nearly as good as a Genesis. You might already...

    Pick One ALPHA 8x42

NL Pure as well, but as I really like my 8.5x EL, I have no immediate plans to ditch it in favor of an NL. But... maybe one day.........

    CL 8x25

My wife wears eyeglasses when using her 8x25 CL-P, and she has no issues at all. I have one too, and neither of us find the FOV to be restrictive. We like them a lot. We carry them while hiking, when glassing is not the main objective. We have no issues with the eyecups. They stay in place...

Why not buy more optics from Europe?

Each country has its own importing company that imports Swarovski products. These companies function according to the laws and customs of their own country. This also includes the determination of warranty length. Each separate country has its own laws that can be quite different from the...

Nikon HG L 8x32 vs EL 8x32 SV

The 1st gen. EL SV that you mentioned has a wider, brighter, and sharper view, so yes - there is a "big difference". To my eyes, the Nikon has a warmer color presentation, which I like. The two binos are shaped much differently, so there is a big difference in handling as well. Focus wheels...

    Best 8x42 for $500

All three brands you listed are very good. No one model is "better" than the other - they just each do their own thing differently. Buy the one whose specs suit you. I would also highly encourage you to look at the Leupold Pro Guide HD, and if you are talking about 42mm binos, consider the...

    Binocular brands with saturated colors

The Zeiss SF really saturates the greens. Too much for me, but obviously my preference has nothing to do with yours. Leica has to my eyes a slightly more saturated reds giving them a more warmish tone, which is something I do like. Some Nikons do this as well.
