    Absolute beginner

Um, YES it does! Triple element objective with one fluorite element, to be precise. That is, unless the Televid 77 brochure I have in front of me is wrong.

Fixed eyepiece for Vanguard Endeavor scopes? (Could it be?!)

First pic is the Vanguard's zoom (courtesy of eitanaltman). Other pics are Nikon's Prostaff 5 EP's. Tell me those bayonet rings don't look AWFULLY similar! Is anyone here in a position to verify compatibility?

    Celestron Regal M2 ED Series - 2013

Just curious, has anyone tried these scopes (M2 65 or 80) with the Explore Scientific 82° eyepieces? Is the entire FOV viewable? Can focus at infinity be achieved? If it works it might prove to be a killer combo, esp. at the price these EP's go for.

New Pentax PR-65/80-EDA- anyone tried them?

    No, he really meant PR.

Cautionary note regarding Vortex's Nomad / Diamondback spotters

FrankD: The Regal 65 is/was/is/was/is/was on my short list; canadiantelescopes has 'em on sale at $420 CAD + tx. (free ship.), so the price is right. My one and only gripe (a big one) is that the thing looks awfully rear-heavy; I'd hate to have to unlock-lock the head for every little tilt...

Cautionary note regarding Vortex's Nomad / Diamondback spotters

A follow up: Last evening (Sat.) I was at a local sporting goods store looking for a camo baseball cap when I saw a cheapo Simmons scope on display (this guy): $160 (CAD), straight eyepiece, single layer coatings, BK7 prisms... Obviously NOT the kind of scope I'm looking for. Still, out of...

    Angle or straight scope

Boy! Betcha this is the first time this question's been asked! ;) I'll list the pros only, as listing the cons would be redundant. STRAIGHT PROS: - More intuitive to aim - Better for viewing from a high vantage point (e.g. an apartment balcony) - In most (all?) porro prism designs, there's...

    budget scope

My vote for the Regal ED.

    I need a tripod !

Consider my recommendation here. The Velbon 607 is more than adequate for this particular scope. It's fairly lightweight for its size, and while it isn't super-cheap (~$80 +S&H), it probably won't break the bank... and it might (emphasis MIGHT) prove adequate for that scope upgrade. No...

    I need a tripod !

What exactly is this scope's make and model? What's your "break the bank" limit? Etc.

    tripod for c90

Okay, first of all, which version of the C90 do you have? Because the current one weighs 2.3 kg (5.07 lbs.), not 1.7. With tripods it's not just about weight capacity, but also how rigid it will be when you're viewing at magnifications above 35x. (Camera/video tripods aren't really meant to be...

    tripod for c90

The C90 is a big, heavy (5 lb.) scope. That Slik is way too thin and flimsy for the C90's size and weight. The ideal all-purpose tripod for this scope is the alt-az mount from Celestron. It's very rigid and has precise slow-motion controls, but the whole thing is very heavy to carry around...

    first scope

Any of the alpha brands is going to be a "decent scope"... You need to be a little more specific than "reasonable" when it comes to your budget. Also, don't forget to factor in the cost of a tripod (it too needs to be "decent!").

    first spotting scope for Buy

$150 is not a lot, especially if you don't already have a tripod! At this price you can forget about 100x... or even 50x! Remember, it's MUCH better to have a bright, clear image at 30x than to have a dim, muddy, blurry one at 100x. The Celestron C90 will cost more than $150 when you include...

    Bushnell Spacemaster 15-45x60

By the way, does anyone know if these "new" Spacemaster models still use a detachable (screw-in) eyepiece like the old Spacemasters did?

    recommend scope under 200

Sfs, I think it would help if you could be a little more precise with your requirements. Will you be moving around a lot with your scope or will it be mostly stationary (like on a balcony)? C90 is quite big and heavy (my mother has one for moon-gazing) and with a heavy tripod to hold it steady...

Bird Watch magazine Hawke Panorama ED82 review

LOL! You think at some point Swarovski will get miffed that these Chinese OEM's are copying their design? First it was Alpen(742-745)/Bresser(Spektar), and now this.

    Bushnell Spacemaster 15-45x60

If you're talking about this one, then yes, it's a well-reputed scope, although there are a few things about it that make it somewhat dated, namely that right-mounted focus wheel (most scopes nowadays have a more "neutrally"-mounted focus knob), the somewhat small-ish eyepiece (contributing to...

Cautionary note regarding Vortex's Nomad / Diamondback spotters

(Warning: LONG post!) Hello to all, Here's my cautionary tale regarding Vortex's entry line of spotting scopes, including a "tryst" with their "VIP" warranty service. I sincerely hope the info herein will prove useful to anyone who's in the market for a low-to-mid price entry-level spotting...
