    Leaving Swarovski for Meopta ?

Thanks for that pointer! If only I had the funds right now, but I totally don't!

The easy DIY eyecup mod for the Meostar 32mm you’ve been waiting for!

Have you ever tried this? Glad to have retrieved this thread, had forgotten which eyecups were the solution :)

    Zeiss 6x18 BT* Design Selction

I've obtained one of these (without T coating though) a few weeks ago for a nice price (~%150) and I think it's a great little toy. Sure, one eye makes harder viewing, it's certainly not equipped for bird detail watching on larger distance, and the focus system (bit resistance in one stretch...

Collins bird guide 3rd edition in an App

I've already paid about €35 for the new book, put about the same amount in the app earlier and now I'd have to pay another €10 for the few marginal changes while for the rest usability of the app (leaving through birds for instance..., and still no Dutch translation) hasn't changed a bit? No...

    What's the latest on Meopta?

I mailed them a month or two ago with the question if we can expect something, next to dating/serial no the coating change around 2015/6, but never received any reply at all.

    Lee Thickett (Troubador) - R.I.P.

Oh wow, that was such a kind and helpful contributor to this place, can only imagine how he was irl. He'll surely be missed by his loved ones, his presence here will be missed too, by me for sure. Bless him. Strength to all around him

Looking for Travel Scope but Cheaper End of Market

Wanted to post this. Regularly secondhand for around 400 with zoom ep, worth trying to find a fixed one (I love the 27x). Hard to beat under 1000

    A Meopta Meostar 8x32 B1.1 with a Serial number starting with 160xxx ?

Anyone have sharp when the coatings changed? At least 2016 but maybe earlier in 2015? Maybe even possible to pinpoint to (general) serial numbers?

    Kite Optics Lynx HD 8x30

I didn't find them all that great, Conquest was certainly an improvement to me. I remember a bit disappointing resolution, don't remember glare issues, but that doesn't say there weren't any. I do think they'd perform above most in the same price range.

    Travelcase for MM4 60mm w. SDLv3

Bought a stay-on-case for my mm4 60 today, but that is quite a tight fit! Precise fit, when it's finally on right... I do like the secure protection it offers, and the click buttons to attach opened lens- and eyepiece caps. But this all really needs some breaking in... Searched for a general...

AOS to discard patronyms in English names

In Dutch a grasshopper was called, literally translated, "little n....r" ("n.g.rtje"), but was a decade or two ago changed to "little black alarm clock" ("zwart wekkertje" to point towards its comparable sibling specie "little alarm clock" ("wekkertje"). Common sense, I think. This eponym...

    New MM4 50 vs part-used Nikon ED50

Yeah, I strongly tend to the same conclusion. A bit of size and weight extra is no problem to me (yet), easy and enjoyable viewing experience tops that.

    New MM4 50 vs part-used Nikon ED50

I'm right now comparing an Ed50 with mcii zoom to a mm4 60 Ed with SDLv2 and that's quite interesting. Because they don't differ that much in optical quality. Besides the slightly increased brightness of the 60mm, the Opticron is a little bit sharper, colours seem somewhat more natural there vs...

    Opticron mm4 60 kit.

I understand your grievance on such matter. On the other hand I'm always wondering how often I, you, we are scoping in pouring rain. A light splatter or drizzle the mm3 will survive, I think (certainly with soc)? Eyepiece is more vulnerable, I wanted the sdl vs hdf for that certainty.

    Kowa Prominar TE-11WZ

There seems to be arriving a second version? https://www.kowaoptic.com/kowa-te-11wz-ii-25-60x-30-70x-wide-zoom-eyepiece?c=66 Any changes? Don't see any in the specs although I can find weight of second version right now

    Opticron mm4 60 kit.

I got myself a dirt cheap hardly used set mm4 60ed + sdl v2. Short testing was very satisfactory. Will report further when I get a chance (short daylight, long days from home) to test it longer. Happy as can be!

    Travelcase for MM4 60mm w. SDLv3

Thanks! I'm always backpacking and cycling, throwing it in the backpack on the carrier, so the reported padding is something that's good in my case. Most often I keep case on the Nikon ed82 scope, so sounds like it'll be fine when adding the plate after fitting the case and just keeping it on...

    Travelcase for MM4 60mm w. SDLv3

was that the designated case? I'm looking buying one for it, but don't feel like spending €85 for a nuisance. Any other experiences with it?

Awesome, gotta have that when I have sufficient funds again!

Having 2 pairs of binoculars. Which would you choose?

Hmm, good question. I think I go for my Meopta Meostar 7x42 as birding bins (and scope when necessary but have used that once or twice this year, I hardly do birding anymore) over my 10x42. That has narrower fov and the stability and dov of the 7x42 are just a joy. Besides that for insect...

    Meostar B1.1 plus

Thanks! :D Your remark about the indentations is a good one; I think I'm very used to those but don't notice it. Time to get my hands on a B1 Plus to find out how they handle, shame they're not very much readily in store here.

    Thoughts ? on Binocular Colors

Well, there's a UV 8x20 that's very very colored on the bay... Can't manage to copy a picture here per mobile... You'll spot it
