    I believe there's a hotel in Iceland where you can sit in the restaurant and watch the Puffins on the cliff top outside the window, they also serve Puffin on the menu. I bet it tastes like chicken.

    My first Orange Tip and Holly Blue in the garden (S. Hants) on 16/04 this week. Then both again on 18/04 and a Hummingbird Hawkmoth. First Small White on 19/04.

    My first Speckled Wood in S. Hants today 24/03 and two each Bombus lapidarius and Bombus pascuorum queens about a month earlier than I'm used to as well as a female Andrea fulva, also a bit early and a few Bombylius major. I guess the Holly Blues will be out soon.

    First Butterflies 2024

    Two Peacocks territorial fighting in the S.Hants garden and a single Comma on Weds 20/03 while I sat in the garden having lunch20/03. Also seen plenty more Brimstone this week and my first Bombus lucorum/terrestris worker.

    Any point putting out niger seed?

    Some years ago after having never had Goldfinches on my feeders I put one out filled with niger seed, within twenty minutes two Goldfinches arrived to feed on the niger, they became regular visitors after that, so try it and see. Good luck

    Brimstones and Red Admirals in my south Hants garden last week w/b 04/03 and my first Marmalde Hoverfly Episyrphus balteatus on 8th March along with another local Adder, male this time.

    I've got a Peregrine pellet which contains two leg bones with racing pigeon rings still attached, it was collected from the vicinity of a Peregrine nest some years back, there were a number of others there also with racing pigeon rings in but these were collected and later lost by the site...
