    ¡Hola from Barcelona!

You will get help with IDs - faster than you ever imagined! I do try to use All About Birds (Cornell) and do image searches in Merlin and even Google image search. Since I count for eBird I feel it's really important to get it right. So I love that I can get help from the awesome people on this...

Where did all the wild birds go?

Where I live, in the last year a number of mallards and crows have moved into the lagoon surrounded by mangroves Gulf of Mexico in Florida. The crows initially decimated the population of just about everything. They chased/harassed the osprey, herons and egrets... There is a robust cormorant...

Great composition! Black on black with the eye and beak is difficult, but you got that detail. tfs

Agreed. I only see them when I'm not able to catch the photograph. I highly doubt I could do better than Craig's here. The beautiful blue of the sky really frames this striking raptor.

    Osprey with a History 8

Today I got a spectacular fly-by - circles and circles right at my balcony height today. I thought it might be Bandit, but it isn't. It is smaller, overall lighter in color and almost completely white-chested. I went through pictures from this time last year and believe it is a male and is...

Great behavioral shot, Contini! I've seen reports about how these Ozzie magpies just terrorize people - especially cyclists.

It's difficult to catch this level of depth and detail on all black and all white birds. Great work! tfs

    Ruddy Turnstone with a splash

I used to hike to waterfalls - a lot. So this one was fun to get a lifer bird with a frozen splash.

So a ruddy turnstone? Wow - new bird for me. Thank you!

    Sandpipers? Florida Gulf Coast USA

Sandpipers and gulls throw me for a loop. The first pic is one that is quite small - between a wren and a robin. The second one is between a robin and a willet. Seen on the shoreline in a mangrove area. Please keep in mind we have displaced birds due to Hurricane Idalia. Thanks for any help!

What camera would be reccomend for a begginer?

If you are going DSLR, you may want to check KEH. They have great people that will help you on the phone or via computer. I wore out my Canon 70D. The newer mirrorless cameras are, I'm sure, quite wonderful, but not in my price range. Plus, I have EF lenses that even with an EF adapter didn't...

    Osprey with a History 7

This isn't the first time Bandit has done fish-catch flybys. Maybe I'm nuts, but I think she likes to show off to me. I'm happy to see her eating well after Hurricane Idilia. She looked a bit worse for wear last time I saw her (Osprey with a History 6). I'm moving from this place by the Gulf to...

Out kayaking and manatees came up to my boat

It is such a treat to see dolphins and manatees when kayaking on the Gulf of Mexico. After the baby manatee was literally rocking my boat, I put all my gear in my dry bag. I did get my phone out for a quick video though. If you are wondering why I have a fishing hook and float on my yak... I...

    Osprey with a History 6

Bandit (whom I identify by the two dark spots in her left iris) is still here after Hurricane Idalia created a storm surge that put the area under four feet of water. I've been seeing/hearing two osprey but didn't get out in my kayak until today. Bandit called and when I didn't see her and went...

Central Gulf Coast Florida - small shorebird

This bird was very shy - hence the awful and blurry pictures. I've never seen this bird here, but we just had a hurricane come through. It was larger than a sparrow, smaller than a robin. Seen on the shore in an area with some mangroves and no real beach. Help on an ID for this bird is much...
