    Micro Moth ID

I was wondering if anyone could identify this micro moth. Photographed last evening in Cheshire, NW England. Many thanks for looking.

    Bee ID

I took the attached yesterday (Cheshire). Quite a small bee, the Tansey flower heads are little more than 1cm across. I thought Leaf-Cutter but the abdomen looks a little too sleek. Also, any idea what the tiny fly, left of frame, might be? Thank you for any responses. Brian.

    Northumberland, UK

I'm hopeless with waders. I'm guessing Little Stint or Sanderling. Any help would be much appreciated.

Just wondered if anyone can ID the moth in the attached image? Many thanks in advance.

    UK, Anglesey

I was a little puzzled by this sighting at first but I'm guessing it's a Black Guillemot. Apologies for poor image but taken at some distance. Would anyone like to confirm ID (or not as the case may be).

Canon Ef 400mm f4 DO Mk II

I was just wondering if anyone knew why this lens is so slow coming to the market? It will soon be a year since it was announced and it is still on back-order at major outlets (Adorama and B&H in the US and at WEX here in the UK). What supplies there are seem to be small and spasmodic. Anyone...

    Skylark?

Taken at Cemlyn Bay, Anglesey. This bird's behaviour was definitely like a Skylark's and the small white tips to the feathers on the head made me think it was a juvenile. However, someone has suggested Meadow Pipit. Any help would be much appreciated.

ID Help - Cemlyn Bay, Anglesey

I'm thinking that this is a Grayling but as I hardly ever see any it would be good if someone could confirm or otherwise. Thanks.

    Juv ID - UK

Am I correct in thinking that this is a juvenile Mistle Thrush? Many thanks, Brian.

    Tawny Owl, Cheshire, UK

I saw this Tawny Owl while out for a walk this morning. It was perched on the edge of a nest box and appeared to be asleep. However, after about 20 seconds it jumped back down into the box. On examining the attached photo it appears that the bird's breast plumage is very threadbare. I was...

    Anglesey, Wales - Raven?

The size of the bill makes me think Raven. Can anyone confirm?

Gull ID - Wirral Coast, UK

I'm afraid my gull ID is poor. After looking at the guides and plenty of images I'd say this was a Herring Gull, 1st or possibly 2nd winter. Can anyone confirm?

    Swimmimng Heron

See attached photo which I took a couple of years ago. Neither before nor since have I seen a heron swim. Is this unusual, exceptional or normal behaviour? Thanks for looking and for any responses.

Willow or Marsh Tit - NW of England

I am presuming Willow Tit because the location (Pennington Flash) is famed for them. However, I would like a definite ID if possible. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

    Greenshank or Green Sandpiper?

Because I rarely see these birds I'm afraid my ID skills are not up to scratch. Would welcome confirmation. Thanks.

Grasshopper ID - Loire Valley, France

I do try to sort these things out for myself and on this occasion I have consulted "Guide des Insectes", Flickr images, Google images and David Element's wildlife pages but to no avail. This sort of camouflage effect just doesn't appear. Has anyone any idea what this particular grasshopper is...

Butterfly ID - Loire Valley, France

I've not come across one of these butterflies before but after looking at the Collins Guide I'm guessing that this is a Lesser Purple Emperor. However, it doesn't quite match up with the images exactly although it is noted that there can be several sub-species which have different...

Caterpillar ID - Loire Valley, France.

Does anyone know if this is the caterpillar of the European swallowtail? If not, any ideas what it may be? Thanks.

    ID Please, Loire Valley, France

I've not seen one of these before but I'm presuming it's a female White-tailed Skimmer. Can anyone confirm or deny, please?

    ID please, Cheshire UK

I'm fairly sure that these two birds are Willow Warblers but confirmation would be appreciated.

    France - ?Juvenile House Martin?

Just wondered if anyone could confirm that this is a juvenile House Martin? Many thanks.

    Frodsham Marsh, Cheshire, UK

I took the attached photo yesterday. The birds were flying over the River Weaver. It's a bit of a long range effort and when I took it I thought they were Tufted Duck but obviously they aren't. Are they Scaup?

    Fritillary ID?

I took this image this morning just north of the Loire valley in France. Having checked the guides it looks like a Marbled Fritillary but they're only supposed to be present in southern France. It was quite large about 2" wingspan so I don't think it's the lesser variety. Can anyone confirm...

    Marsh or Willow Tit

Took this at RSPB Minsmere last week and I've still not come to a definite conclusion. From the upward angle it's not possible to determine whether it has a glossy or matt head and the wing detail is lost with the displaced feather. Any help would be much appreciated.
