Anyone played with a Tascam Portacapture X8 yet.

At first glance looks as if it has potential. A little bit expensive for a casual purchase - so if anyone has taken the plunge initial thoughts would be welcome. Tascam Portacapture X8 | High-Resolution Multi-Track Handheld Recorder J

    New Tascam DR-100 Mk III

Just added a DR-100 Mk III to the stable. Less handling noise than I expected but the internal mics are independently shock mounted which must help. I am mildly concerned at the total recording time available with the rechargeable battery, but I do have Tascam BP-6AA battery pack that holds 6...

    Many wrens

There appear to be a lot more wrens in the open this year around my garden (mainly in the past week or so). I don't know if its been a bumper year for wrens or that it is the opposite and they are in the open because of a food shortage caused by the weather? Definitely not happened in previous...

    Boya Shotgun Mics

I have been looking at adverts, reviews and downloaded specs for Boya shotgun mics (BY-PVM1000L). At first glance they look an interesting low cost option. Anyone out there had a play and an opinion as they look like a potentially good toe in the water option for folks starting out or...

    Affinity

I have just downloaded Affinity for Windows I have yet to use it in anger, though after a brief play it seems fairly normal. It has only been mentioned twice a couple of years ago, so it would be interesting (to me at least), how this currently affordable software compares to its competition...

    OMD E-M1 Photo Stacking

Olympus have just released photo stacking in firmware for the E-M1, pity I havn't got one of the 3 lenses it works with. It will be interesting if anyone out there can test it out and perhaps convince me to buy another lens.....

    Omd E-m10

Seems that if you can forgo the weather seals and the 5 axis IS this looks good value. Hopefully it has the equivalent to the V2.0 firmware as the E-M5 when it comes to smaller AF target.

    The New SP-820

They claim that it produces the best quality high speed HD movies of any compact camera. You will need to look at the spec to confirm precisely what they are claiming - it will be interesting to see some hands on results. This may be of interest to some and may explain why this camera has gone...

    Close encounter with a Sparrowhawk

Just finished putting up the walls of a small toolshed and flaked against the wall admiring same when a Sparrowhawk came at right angles to me and perched on top - until the last minute I was shielded by a wall. It landed 6 ft away and was staring into the bushes for blackbirds before turning...

Want to use Canon EF on MFT?

Latest E-Mail from CVP had this gem. Seems a lot of cash just to operate the aperture control, but I suppose if you have a lot of Canon kit it might be worthwhile? I assume there must be a demand from the video world...

    Found my Goldfinches

I used to have groups of goldfinches feeding on and off all day - recently not a one - disease, cats, migration? Today I found a solitary tree packed with them - at any one time there were at least 3 dozen visible with a many more noisily out of sight. The reason - a field full of flowering and...

    Fledglings in the house

A record year for fledglings in the house - last week 2 chaffinches, one robin and a very very new blackbird. Chaffinches were gently guided out with minimal hassle. The robin waited to be picked up, took a great interest as it was carried out and simply hopped off my hand and flew away when in...

    Not just for Minox

Interesting recent review of mid-priced bins, especially considering some recent threads. http://www.birdwatching.com/optics/2007roundup/chart_main.html

    Buzzard Mobbed by Kestrel

Both very common on the North Wiltshire downs, but around here it is usually rooks having a go at lone buzzards. Today it was the turn of a kestrel to have a go at a long suffering buzzard - possibly a common event but the first time I have seen it. J

North Wiltshire Downs - Blackbird Juveniles

Three juvenile blackbirds in back garden on ground being fed by adult male. Good cover so hopefully will survive. Much earlier than last year.
