    Flycatcher, Sweden

When reviewing photos taken earlier this spring I came across this one. Not the best shot, but hopefully good enough for ID. Could it be a Red-breaster Flycatcher? Asking since rare here, this would by my first observation. Many thanks

    E-M1 Mark2: C-AF a disappointment

This weekend I tested E-M1 M2 and also m4/3 300/F4. When used in S-AF the E-M1 coupled with the 300/2.8 and the metabones + Canon 400/5.6 produced encouraging results. Fewer frames suffering from OOF compared with the E-M1. Still not 100% reliable, but OK. The 300/4 was spot on when used in...

    Bird of prey Sri Lanka

I have some difficulties identifying this bird of prey. Could it be a Harrier? Location: Wilpattu NP, NW Sri Lanka. Season: winter. Photos are far from perfect but hopefully good enough for ID.

Medium-large bird of prey, Sri Lanka

I have some difficulties identifying this fairly large raptor. The clearly distinctive red eyes puzzle me. I don't have any front or in flight facing pictures. Location: central northern Sri Lanka, close to Minneriya Habitat: Open habitat, sparsely forested

    Vacuum cleaning scope

In order to remove dust from the TS102 scope (which is tricky given the design and length) I used a vacuum cleaner. It worked really fine. Just make sure not to insert the nozzle too deep though, or risk is it will suck to the lens and probably leave a dirt mark that will be hard to get rid of...

    Reversing the focusing axis L/R?

Hi, Has anyone here managed to reverse their Crayford focusing axis L/R? (In order to get the dual speed knob on the left side). I am tempted to give it a try but would like to hear other opinions before attempting to do something that might be a bad idea, ending up with a broken scope.

    Hen Harrier or Pallid Harrier?

Location: Falsterbo, southermost Sweden Early September Other birders were of the opinion it was a Pallid Harrier, which would be a quite unusual sighting. Hope the photos are good enough for ID.

    Focuser issues

This is what happened to my TS102. It is fitted with a 3" improved Crayford focuser that I have been very pleased with. Precise, smooth and very robust. When using the scope yesterday I noticed in the field that the focuser was stiffer than usual, and at times there was this sound of metal...

TL APO804, Telenegative improving corner sharpness

The TLAPO804 is a great little scope but suffers from softness in the corners. I believe Fernando explained in a post quite some time ago it is caused by not using field flattener. I does not matter in practice for bird photography, so I have not bothered about it. When testing the other day I...

    Zuiko 300mm F/2.8 vs. TL APO 804 480mm F/6

Last weekend I tested the TLAPO 804 480mm F/6 vs. a Zuiko 300/2.8 lens. Setup on tripod on a fair day, no wind to speak of. Placed the subject on a door in shade (used a first resolution chart printed on A4 paper/600 DPI and then a banknote), paying attention it is square centered on the...

    Videoscoping with E-M5

Here is a video of a Red-necked Grebe family using my E-M5 and Skywatcher ED80 scope. I used the built-in mike, considering getting a shotgun mike for future opportunities. Thanks Tord https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XejwyeNlWYs

    Dust

Has anyone come up with a clever solution how to reduce the amount of dust coming into the tube, some of it eventually landing on the lens? I guess it comes in through the gap in the focuser. Would some sort of felt filling the gap help?

    Rough-Legged Buzzard?

Is this a Rough-Legged Buzzard? Location: South Sweden, Late October. The flight style was quite powerful. Apologies for lack of detail, it's a faily long distance shot, but hopefully it's good enough for ID. Thanks, Tord

    OMD-EM5 battery stamina

Hi I am curious about what battery stamina others are experiencing on the OMD. Having concerns about the EVF and IS draining battery I used to turn the camera off in between pictures, but having missed opportunities due to this I plan to purchase extra batteries to have the camera on all the...

    Swimming(!) Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea)

Late evening I was walking back to my car after a photo session. I had almost reached my car when I spotted this Grey Heron by the shoreline. Nothing special with this but the setting and light were nice so I decided to take some final pictures for that photo session. Now, what? As I am taking...

    Willow Warbler or Chiffchaff?

As far as I recall I could not hear any Chiffchaff in the area, only Willow Warblers. However the legs look a bit dark... any other distinctive feature to look for? Thanks, Tord

    Televue

My setup has drawn quite some attention and I have been asked (and am also asking myself) if there are refractor scopes that are capable of even better results than the SW (application area wildlife and bird photography). I have been browsing through posts on this forum as well as other places...

    Handheld techniques

Hi Handheld shooting with the SW80 is associated with the challenge having to manage three tasks with two hands only. The left hand supporting the scope near the tripod mount and the right hand operating the shutter release button and the focuser knob, with a distance 10-20 cm in between...

    Play in focuser

Hi, (Maybe I should direct this question to the retail service where I purchased my scope. Anyhow before doing so I guess some of you may have experienced the same symptoms and can guide me if this can be remedied with the appropriate tools.) The focuser is a Crayfoord focuser, the single...

    Use of flash?

Hi, Looking at some early posts in the "Setup" thread I notice some of you have mounted a flash on your scopes. I am curious about this. Can anyone share your experience from a technical/setup point of view and also if the results achieved have been in line with your intentions. Also what...
