    straight vs angled scope ?

Bear in mind that with most angled scopes there is usually a facility to twist the end of the scope so that the eyepiece points out to the side of the scope. This can be useful when scanning from a car/hide, though it's not as easy to find things at that angle than it is with a straight scope in...

That’s what you need, as Gzoladz74 says: a TSN-EC2 adaptor.

    Using KOWA TSN-EX16S (1.6x) Extender with a TSN-823?

Thanks Joachim. I now have acquired a TSN-EX16S and it works very well, at least in initial trials, with my 823. To make it work you simply unscrew the furled ring, as in your photo, and it then screws directly onto the thread surrounding the eyepiece. The EC1A adapter is then fitted onto one of...

    Impact of TSN-EX16 on FOV?

I think it will just be the associated loss of FOV that comes with greater magnification. So it will be proportional, I would think. So, if the FOV with the Kowa zoom eyepiece at 40x is roughly 33.87m then at 64x (40x + the 1.6 extender) I'd expect it to be 33.87/1.6 = 21.17m. (I have the TSN...

    Using KOWA TSN-EX16S (1.6x) Extender with a TSN-823?

Thanks Joachim – that looks promising. I haven't actually got at EX16S, but wanted to check how it might work before I tried to acquire one! But good to see how you can remove the inner part to reveal a wider thread which should attach to the larger 820. Do you notice a big drop-off in quality...

    Using KOWA TSN-EX16S (1.6x) Extender with a TSN-823?

Has anyone tried using the 1.6 EX16S extender (the one for the 663) with an 823? According to the Kowa website it will work "in combination with a TSN-EC1A adaptor fitted onto the Kowa eyepiece (see: https://www.kowaoptic.com/media/pdf/f2/9b/b4/Kowa-System-S-A4-English.pdf). I have the adapter...

    ‘Windscreen wipers’ for bins!

Ok, so this is quite tongue in cheek, but the new tech in the Swarovski Visio got me thinking about other innovations that it might be good to see in binoculars. One thing that’s always bugged me is how unusable bins quickly get in heavy rain (particularly, wet objective lenses). Would some kind...

    MHG Help

If you like your current Trailblazers, which I assume you do as you say you’re going to keep them, then I’d be inclined to go with the 8x42s. That’ll give you two more-versatile options to take out with you in future.

    New AX Visio 10x32 binocular

I'm sure they'll be good for the people who want them (and have enough money to buy them). If I had money to burn I'd be tempted to buy a pair for the novelty. But £3,800 is a lot of cash I don't have for novelty value! What I would say though is that people who end up using these as they start...

    New AX Visio 10x32 binocular

In a few years you'll probably be able to buy a drone/robot with all of this technology integrated so you don't actually have to go out and look at anything anymore. It will report back to you what you could've seen had you been bothered to get up and leave the house.

Does Opticron SDL v3 eyepiece fit Kowa TSN-4?

In terms of o-rings it should be pretty straightforward. Easiest will probably be a visit to a local plumbing supplies place, as they should have a box of larger o-rings and you should be able to check if they fit onto the underside of the eyepiece correctly.

Which Zoom Eyepiece for Kowa 663M Opticron SDLV3 or Baader Hyperion Mark IV

I don’t think you’ll be able to get the Baader to fit a 663, so its performance vs the SDL is probably academic. I did use an Opticron HDF on my Kowa a while back. It was reasonable enough, but I’d expect the SDL to be better.

    Best current 7x42 roof option?

I'd be tempted (if budget allowed) to go with an 8x42 NL in your position. Its FOV is so good and I doubt you'd see much difference in brightness. I say this as an EDG 7x42 owner, too. The EDG is a lovely binocular, but the view through it does feel narrow after looking through the Swarovski...

Getting my first camera for birding. I have two options.

I'd go for the P950 (and I say that as a satisfied P900 user). Its reach really is very good for getting record shots of distant birds. And with closer ones it's more than possible to get some very nice shots with it. It's just birds in flight that are problematic, but that will be the same...

    Nikon P900, Nikon P950 or Nikon P1000

I suppose they can always upgrade the viewfinder too - by all accounts (and I say this as a P900 user) that's one of the main reasons for moving to a P950 or P1000.
