    Birding in Alicante Province

I had my week away last week. Fantastic. Firstly, Easter so everywhere was very busy. Secondly, after all the rain, it was all very green. (was eaten alive at El Hondo) Mostly a family visit but: Local birds where I stayed, Hoopoe, passing Osprey, Swifts, Swallows, Housemartins, Serins, Monk...

    Griffons near Alcoy, Spain

I have been. It was a challenge, we found it by luck, there was no signage when I went, a few years ago. If you find the location, you can access it at any time, the birds are easy to see when you know. They're up on the rocks and if they're up soaring it helps locate the place. Its a trek from...

Rollers 'n Trumpeters I'm out this month for the first time since March 2018 :-C Anyway, shall add this to my must do list. Secondly, still haven't found a Roller... ever! Can someone drop a pin on Google maps for a likely place please? Instructions by road in the past have always failed me...

    Birding in Alicante Province

I've only been once. It was a pain to find and I ended finding it by pure luck, no signs! Birds are viewable from a couple of points along the path but it was closed and locked when I went.

    Birding in Alicante Province

It's very quiet on here .... I'm keeping up to date on the Costa Blanca Bird Club site. I'm out next week for a few days but mostly committed to touristy stuff.

    Birding in Alicante Province

We struggled to find the Alcoi site for the vultures a few years ago when we went (the sign had been removed) and only found it by luck. You get good views when they're perched and it's amazing when they're all above you soaring.

Nothing of note at La Mata yesterday. San Pedro, Lo Pagan etc and similar later today.

    Birding in Alicante Province

Nothing at Lo Monte, dead. The first pool at Clot de Galvany is overgrown again and nothing is viewable. Usual stuff at the second, nothing special. Second lake at El Fondo visitor centre is pretty much dry. A few bits around the the other pools. Lots of noisy Spaniards about today as it is a...

Crossbill and crested tit yesterday as I walked to the beach from 'base camp mum', a good start. Local birding yesterday, day one, dead at Lo Monte though.

A decent cafe on the 'pier' here. Good for waders and Egrets. I normally get Kentish Plover as shown.

    Birding in Alicante Province

I stay with my mum and rely on her for travelling around and she is happy with this. Normally I manage Las Urrutias, La Mata, El Fondo, Lo Monte, San Pedro del Pinatar, Clot De Galvany, Cabo de Palos and a few smaller areas we have found. No target species for me.

    Birding in Alicante Province

I'm back from my trip. I've never been between April and September before. What a difference! So quiet in my usual haunts. Amazing how many swifts there are. Had no time to go for the Rollers. Finally saw a Spanish Crested tit at Safari Aitana. The breeding Little Terns at Lo Pagan give good...

    Birding in Alicante Province

I'm out in less then a month. I can't seem to find specifics on where the monastery is. Can you advise some details please? Roller still eludes me on visits. The Bunting seems to have the leg problem that plagues Chaffinches?

    Birding in Alicante Province

I was out in Murcia region from Wednesday to Saturday, luckily staying dry for the first three days. Avoided El Fondo and La Mata as they would have been too boggy. A shame as it seems many Bluethroats were at El Fondo. Highlight for me, my first Blue Rock Thrush at Cabo de Palos on wednesday...

    Birding in Alicante Province

Cattle Egrets and a Great Grey Shrike on the fence there on Friday. It was nice to see the hide useable, though some more water and a bit of vegetation would certainly help.
