    Marsh/Willow Tit (Ukraine, Carpathian Mnts)

Last time. Can anyone else see the white spot on the upper mandible? Not white-lips as tideliner states. There is white but I don't think it is the spot, but what people on here call an 'artefact'.

    Marsh/Willow Tit (Ukraine, Carpathian Mnts)

No, I don't believe it has the diagnostic white spot.

    Sex my Honey Buzzard

I agree with male HB as I think the pattern on the underwings is more important than the pattern of the tail. I have seen a few pictures like this before.

    English dragonfly names

I think a lot of the 'new' names are from America and I avoid using them. At least none of them, thankfully, contain double negatives.

Friendly and Sunda Bush Warblers, Borneo

Hi Richard, thanks again for the links. I found the move from Cettia to Horornis but cannot find the move for Friendly Bush Warbler from Bradypterus accentor to Locustella accentor. It's complicated stuff (for me).

Friendly and Sunda Bush Warblers, Borneo

Has Friendly Bush Warbler been moved from Bradypterus to Locustella and has Sunda Bush Warbler been moved from Cettia to Horornis ? This is what my checklist says, but not my books.

    Help In Croatia

500 metres is 10x the height of the highest Douglas Fir in the uk - which is quite a specimen. I just thought that the height you quoted was a little exaggerated. I did not mention a dove. Pendantic, me? Best wishes...

    Swallow, Northern Seward Peninsula, AK

In England I did once see a (Barn) Swallow that had a white spot on the underside of every primary and secondary, in the same way that a typical bird is marked on the tail. It was a very striking bird and it also lacked the usual upperpart colour, being a lovely shade of lilac instead. But it...

The pale crown stripe makes me think #1 is Tristram's Bunting.

    Great Skua? Gran Canaria

The bill looks rather small for a Great; did you rule out Pom?

    Travellingbirder down again :(

I think Christian is just far too busy nowadays to devote as much time as is necessary. When he was a single fellow he had a lot of free time. Now with a wife and child the site is not his first priority. I sure he will get back to do what is necessary, but these breakdowns may become more...

    Which pratincole? Riyadh, KSA

I agree with Lou for the reasons he gives and also the legs appear longish (for a pratincole).

    Yellow Wagtail subspecies, Zimbabwe

I think they are all flavas and don't think you can get to subspecies level in this plumage.

Sedge v Moustached Warbler, Crete, Greece

Is it not a little late for a migrant Moustached Warbler? I have seen them already back on their breeding grounds, in the Hortobagy, Hungary, on March 20.
