Hi all. A bit of help required with the ID of this Damsel Bug, if possible. I have photographed several Tree Damsel Bugs (Himacerus apterus) over the last few days, but this one is giving me problems. Wings look a bit long for Tree, but, IMO, antennae seem a tad too long for Ant Damsel Bug...

Hi all. At first I had this down as betony, now I'm not so sure. Varied in height from 15cm to 30cm and just coming into flower. Dead nettle or woundwort...

Dovesfoot Cranesbill white variant? cambs UK

This little beggar has me puzzled! I stand to be corrected but I'm thinking this is a white variant of Dovesfoot Cranesbill. Definitely a geranium species, same smell and same leaves. There were several plants together, all white ones. I followed several stems down to the leaf bases just to...

UK Fly Id please - family will do

Hi all. I can't even get this little chap down to family let alone a species. It's a common enough fly, and the 'club tail' must be an ID pointer. With 1000's of british ditpera to choose from, and many of 'em being similar, I know it's hard to give a species ID from a photo, but just getting...

Hi all, I've 'booked this' as a nymph of the species Meadow Grasshopper, Chorthippus parallelus, only by guesswork. Macro - A whole new ball game!

Hi all. 1st tryout with a raynox dcr-150 and canon ef-s 55-250 IS I'm no stranger to 'normal' butterfly and dragon fly 'close up' stuff but this is a whole new ball game for me and a lot of my 'rules gained through experience' no longer seem to apply in this new field of photography. Appologies...

Macro on a tight budget - Help!

Hi all. Sorry for the cheeky post but I realy need to 'pick the brains' of BF's macro pool of knowledge/experience. I want a decent macro lens but I only have £200 max to spend. Tamron 70-300 di ld macro - fault?

Hi all. Just bought myself, from a car boot, a faulty Tammy 70-300 di ld f4-5.6macro zoom for peanuts. (less than a kentucky bargain bucket) Well chuffed and it'll do for this summers flower and creepy crawly pics. I'm using it with a canon 350D. Initial trials have shown image quality to be...

    White Wagtail - cambs UK

Just confirmation please. Have I, at last, managed to pick out a white waggie amongst our local pieds? If I am, then one out of a hundred 'might be's' over the last few years gives me, i reckon, a deserved pat on the back. Thanks in advance, Joe

Hi everyone. My good old Tamron 200-500 died! Un repairable. I can't afford to buy a new one, so I've opted, on my budget, for a 2nd hand sigma 170-500 APO, just to get me out birding again. The lens is fine, does what it should etc etc. BUT! So far, my results (image quality ) have been...
