    Thanks. Their behavior was throwing me off. Usually, they'd stay around where they landed until I get too close to them and they fly off. These just disappeared on me.

An hour later I flushed out 3 birds that might be the same as these but, when they landed in a small patch of wormwood maybe 80' away I couldn't get a photo of them and when I slowly walked over they never flushed...

    Rough-legged Hawk chick w/eye sore?
