    HG or YLG ? Italy

Hello, this one has been recorded last year in March. Head and bill suggests HG but I'm not sure about the coverts pattern. I've never seen brown coverts like these in a hg. It's more of a YLG pattern. Besides, it shows a third generation tertial. Isn't that too advanced for a 3cy hg? Mantle...

    YLG or LBBG? NW Italy

I sometimes find it hard to separate YLG and LBBG in first winter plumage, especially at this time of year. This has a bulky structure but it has an overall dark appearance and scapulars are dark centered with big black spot and pale edges...

    Possible Baltic Gull? NW Italy

Hello, small head, small and slender bill, elongated and slim build, very long primary projection, small tips on primaries and quite large mirror on p10. It all makes me think of a Larus fuscus fuscus. Could it be a Baltic? In Italy is not so rare during migration. A few individual are spotted...

    Strange gull - NW Italy

Hello, I'm not sure about his gull. Can't see a HG, or a YLG or a Caspian in it. It had the coverts similar to a HG , but finer and it was sort of unicoloured...i dont' know! https://www.flickr.com/photos/48743015@N03/16548731719/in/photostream/...

    LBBG? NW Italy

the slender and short bill, small head and jizz make me think of LBBG. But i'm not sure about the scapulars pattern. Or is this a YLG? https://www.flickr.com/photos/48743015@N03/16465580190/in/photostream/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/48743015@N03/16652958195/in/photostream/...

    Possible Herring Gull? NW Italy

Hello Lou. This gull shows some characters of a HG. Very short wings, general jizz and structure, pale-based bill, not so dark tertials, faint and uniform coverts pattern, White tipped primaries. If it were a YLG, at least it's not a standard one...

    HG? NW Italy

the first winter bird. It has a neatly and strongly bi-coloured bill, pale base and dark tip like a typical HG and also the head shape points towards a HG. I'm not so sure about the moult pattern...could it be within variability? What do you think...
