I'd say Chiffchaff also, and you do live dangerously.

Great or Lesser Grey Shrike? Greece - Late Spring (May)

Your bad what? (sorry, but I hate what Americans are doing to our language)

    Redpoll but which?

Worry not, your knowledge is much better than mine!

    Redpoll but which?

Thanks, it's the only image I have since scanning only a selection of my old trannies.

    Redpoll but which?

I'm probably not alone in being confused with identification of Redpolls and I found this shot from Alaska in April 92, can anyone pin down which "type" it is please? Thanks, David

North East London yesterday an Accip. flyby?

Strange though. I agree comment on edited images with IMG****, but look at the data above and both have the same date/time stamp but widely differing DSCO numbers. I'm not familiar with that Sony model but something is very odd here.

Urgent - the birds in Italy need your help

We may have a range of opinions on the usefulness of on-line petitions but I beg you to read on. The Italian parliament is debating a bill which, if passed, could have a devatating effect on the birds in that country. LIPU, BirdLife in Italy, have an on-line petition at...

    Feathers from Switzerland

Posting for a friend who recently found these in his large garden about 840m asl. He says, "Shafts shattered. Downy feathers no longer available but those found earlier were boldly barred grey and black." Local concensus is settling on domestic hen, perhaps a Coucou de Rennes but confirmation...

    Would it be too cosy?

Sorry, my last was about nesting not roosting but I still think the best thing is to leave well alone. We have a Blue Tit roosting in our camera box and I assume most or all the other boxes are occupied as well and all seem to manage well.

    Would it be too cosy?

Leave it empty. Decades ago I "tried to help" by putting some soft fabric in a box. It was fortunate that I was watching later because I saw a bird trying to pull it out of the nest hole. It was jammed in the hole and the other bird was trapped inside! I kicked myself, opened the box and emptied...

Comment by 'dragnil' in media 'Scarlet-rumped Tanager, male'

I suffered a similar "problem" when photographing this bird - the scarlet is so intense and saturated that my Nikon was almost overloaded as your Canon seems to be. Acrually, yours is better than mine - well done with a tricky challenge )

    Pyrenean coincidence

Back in August 2010 we saw this eagle perching on top of a conifer at Plateau de Saugué in the French mountains just north of Gavarnie. Nothing too unusual about that, but last month we were at the same place and looking at the same tree because: Certainly seems to be favoured by the...

    French Pyrenees autumn 2023

Working though images from a recent trip I have a couple I'd like to be more certain of and any help would be appreciated but please give reasons so I can learn. I'm useless with gulls and even more so if they are not adult, my instinct is to fall back on LBBG but a more ceratin ID would be...

Another Great Day in the Pyrenees - 2023

My thanks to Charles and daughter Izzy for their hospitality today when they took us around the fields of Argeles and then to the raptor watch point at Col de Soulor. At the Soulor a group monitors and counts the raptors migrating through the pass every autumn and he mentions 13000+ Black Kites...
