    France - Grey plover ?

Just referencing your use of the word ALL... Careful with your assumptions again :-) Time to put this one to bed...

    France - Grey plover ?

Hmmm... Certain Pectoral Sandpipers (Calidris Melanotos) have no discernible wing bars https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Pectoral_Sandpiper/id ...and Stilt Sandpipers (Calidris Himantopos) have longer legs. Like I said, I like to question :-)

    France - Grey plover ?

I'm one of those that always likes to question :-) I was always concerned about the wings for my suggestion but I wasn't 100% happy with other people's suggestions either... some people do see things that are always open to other interpretations. All good fun :-)

    France - Grey plover ?

The whitish bar was the key things I was worried about when saying Knot, but there are birds out there with weak ones... https://www.hbw.com/ibc/photo/red-knot-calidris-canutus/flight The legs on the OPs photo don't bother me as the angle of the picture and possibly slightly dangling legs could...

    France - Grey plover ?

I looked at numerous images of Knot before I posted and there was quite a bit of variety. Some showed a darker carpal patch and contrast between secondaries and primaries. I am also struggling to get any real idea of size or structure on the OPs bird, especially head and bill, due to the angle...

    France - Grey plover ?

Probably totally out on this but when I first saw the picture (and had not read any other posts) and because the OP suggested a wader, I thought Knot. Ian

Pipit... have I got the wrong one?

Meadow Pipits (in Spring) that are reminiscent of Tree Pipit... I always link to this interesting article... http://birdingfrontiers.com/category/12-pipits-and-wagtails/page/5/. Edit - seems the link only goes to the Pipits section now??? The article is one click back on 'older' at the bottom...

    Wader (Central Spain)

Getting back to the bird... Check out the join between the shoulder of the wing and the breast markings. If you have a quick google of Common Sandpiper (or even check your field guides :-) they all show a white 'notch' (or 'peak' as described in Shorebirds) between the wing and breast markings...

    Sparrowhawk vs Goshawk. Catalonia, Spain

I think based on the markings on the breast looking 'streaked' down the breast - which is juvenile Goshawk, rather than 'stripes' across for adult Goshawk and Sparrowhawk. The tail also looks rounded at the end which is another good pointer for Goshawk. Ian

    Dangling digitals....and digits!....37 years since my last visit!...May 29th-June 5th

Nice to read up on the birds of another part of the island, you saw some good birds that we missed. The only sighting I’d double check on is your Cormorant. We saw many of the Mediterranean race of Shag on our visit which are quite common. I’ve read that Cormorant is usually a winter visitor...

    Balaeric Flycatcher.....I assume?

All the (Spotted) Flycatchers I saw on Menorca last week were like this - my own photo attached. The clean white chest was distinctive. I referred to them as Mediterranean Flycatcher but they are of the Balearics race rather than the Tyrrhenian race of Sardinia. Look forward to reading the rest...

    Menorca May 2018

Didn’t see anyone else with binoculars the whole time there. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy to see some of the special birds of the island were. Other trip reports I read were from people who spent a day here and a day there, it was great on this trip to really explore in detail just a...

    Menorca May 2018

Hi Have just returned from a great week staying in the SW of the island at Cala’n Bosch, which also included a trip to Cala Galdana. The story of my trip and birds seen can be read here: https://nobbyball.blogspot.com Thanks Ian

    Kentish Plover, wikipedia

I should have gone to specsavers, as should Wikipedia... knew there was something wrong as I wasn’t 100% but only had the UK in mind because of the post title. My bad! I’ll blame the heat and beer B (:

    Kentish Plover, wikipedia

Dark legs, lack of noticeable breast band, white eyestripe and lack of prominent orbital eye ring suggest a young Kentish Plover rather than LRP. I won't call you crazy because a) I'd wait for a second opinion, and b) Wikipedia can get its facts wrong ;) Ian

Help in ID for this bird

The angle of the bird does fore shorten the tail a bit. Lack of wing bars had me puzzled which is why I wasn’t 100% ... not a region I’ve been to or studied much :-)

Help in ID for this bird

Hi I’m thinking a female ‘flava’ Yellow Wagtail. Not sure of most likely sub-species there but imagine a range of them move through on passage. Ian

    Bird of prey, Bulgaria

Try it again with the 1st picture from this post and then the middle picture from the other post I linked to. Open them side by side... By the way I don’t think you’ll get a positive ID from this bird but it shows, as others have said, that flight silhouette can be very deceptive.

    Golden Eagle? Findhorn Valley, Scotland

Just to the north of this location is Inverness and the Black Isle. The Black Isle was, I believe, the first of the release areas in Scotland for Red Kite. Red Kite are plentiful on the isle and can also be seen south down towards Strathspey. I've not personally seen them in the Findhorn Valley...

    Mew Gull Central NJ

Just a thought. It looks like a 2nd winter bird as you can see black in the tail. Can we actually see the end of the bill? 2nd Winter Mew Gull would show the dark primaries as in this bird and the dark end to the bill. Head seems quite ‘friendly’ to me and bill quite thin recalling Mew Gull...

Pipit ID help required, N Germany, 02/2018

Your summer Rock Pipits in Devon and Dorset would have been ’petrosus’. Here in Lancashire the availability of rocky habitat is very limited but where it does exist, Rock Pipit will make a preference for it. However they are regular on the salt marshes. I imagine over there in North Germany the...

Pipit ID help required, N Germany, 02/2018

Can I link to this interesting article that references Scandanavian Rock Pipits. http://northlancsringinggroup.blogspot.co.uk/2016/02/scandinavian-rock-pipit-in-north.html It actually mentions that they are found away from rocks in the saltmarsh creeks of North Germany (as in fact Rock Pipits...
