    Warbler ID, June Denmark

Unfortunately it was no longer around - so I will likely never get a 100% ID. Probably the closest I will ever get to a booted warbler in DK ;-) Thanks everyone for your efforts, it was an outstanding help!

    Warbler ID, June Denmark

Thanks again - it was recorded June 24th 4.30pm at app. this location (55.852002, 12.544602) (in the small trees behind a lamppost with green paint on it). I will see if it is still there tomorrow and try to get picture/recording. Best, Peter

    Warbler ID, June Denmark

Hi - can anyone ID this bird song I recorded a couple of days ago in Denmark (just north of Copenhagen). It was sitting in some low trees in a somewhat swampy area. Huge thanks in advance. Best, Peter

Is this a Eurasian Golden Oriole singing? (June, Denmark)

Hi - can anyone hear what this bird is? https://sites.google.com/site/lydopagelsesangere/muligpirol I was wondering if it is a Eurasian Golden Oriole (Oriolus oriolus), but I cannot really get it to fit with the calls from the xeno-canto database. It is recorded on June 5th in Denmark (orioles...

Flycatchers ID - Costa Rica in October

Hi - i don't know if these two flycatchers seen mid October in Costa Rica can be identified. Pic1 + Pic2 is the same bird: Seen near Arenal Observatory Lodge on Oct 12th (600-1100 meters above sea level) Pic 3: Seen near Caribbean Coast (Cahuita) Oct 24th I guess it may not be possible to ID...

Hawk ID, Costa Rica in October

Hi - I shot a series of pictures of this bird (all show the same bird). It was seen near the Pacific Coast (Ostional) in Costa Rica in mid October. My best guess is Broad-winged Hawk (Buteo platypterus), but the wings do not seem that broad to me... Note the small insert where the tail pattern...

Swainson's hawk? Costa Rica in October

Hi, Late October on the Carribbean Coast of Costa Rica I saw and incredible amount of high flying raptors migrating south. On these pictures, along with the turkey vultures, there are some smaller ones, which I suspect are Swainson's Hawks (Buteo swainsoni). Would you agree? Or is it something...

    Waders in Costa Rica, October

Hi forum, I went to Ostional Beach (Pacific side) in Costa Rica in mid October. Apart from the hundreds of vultures and caracaras feeding on turtle eggs there were a few waders - something which is not my strongest side. There were many Sanderlings and Ruddy Turnstones and then some others...

    Tiger-heron October Costa Rica

Hi All , Thank you so much for your replies. It is very nice to learn new stuff. I managed to get hold of the professional birding guide from nearby Arenal Observatory Lodge, and he confirmed it to be a juvenile Fasciated Tiger-heron (Tigrisoma fasciatum). Best wishes, Peter

    Tiger-heron October Costa Rica

Hi - I saw this bird near the entrance to Lost Iguana Lodge, Arenal, Costa Rica in mid October. I think it is a female (or juvenile?) Fasciated Tiger-heron (Tigrisoma fasciatum) but is uncertain. I would think that the small feathers visible below the bill says it is not a Bare-throated...

Sand Plover - Oman March 2017

Hi - thanks for your comments. And yes, I think these are two individual birds. I tried selecting the best shots from a long series of pictures. I can go back and look for better views of particular details. What should I look after? Any particular part of the birds or angels you think could be...

Sand Plover - Oman March 2017

Hi fellow birders, On the beach in Northern Oman (Shangri-La Hotel near Muscat) I saw 4 sand plovers on March 9th. I suspect they are Lesser Sand Plover (Charadrius mongolus) but I am not sure (could also be Greater Sand Plover (Charadrius leschenaultii)). On the beach there was a Common...

Denmark, June - call of spotted flycatcher (Muscicapa striata)?

Hi again One more video recorded for the call (not the picture). It may be a little challenging as the call is of course not as distinctive as the song from a bird, but perhaps someone can ID it. From what I saw (because I saw the bird quite well) I would guess it is a spotted flycatcher...

Denmark, June - common grasshopper warbler?

Hi again I recorded a video in order to capture the mechanical song of a warbler (probably a Locustella type warbler). I know from other people that this area (Sjælsø, Denmark) contains several common grasshopper warbler (Locustella naevia) and also one river warbler (Locustella fluviatilis)...

Warbler ID - Denmark, June 2016

Hi clever people I am still doing my best to learn how to ID warblers based on their song. I have uploaded two videos - the birds are hard/impossible to see but their song is quite clear. Both are recorded in Denmark in early/mid June this year. The first one I suspect is a lesser whitethroat...

Denmark in June, song of warblers

Hi Lou - thank you. Regarding 1), did you confirm it as a Eurasian reed warbler (Acrocephalus scirpaceus) or a Sedge warbler (Acrocephalus schoenobaenus)? Best, Peter

Common or lesser whitethroat, Denmark in June

Hi again - another warbler that puzzles me... Is this a picture of a Common whitethroat (Sylvia communis) or Lesser whitethroat (Sylvia curruca)? I hope the latter (but due to the light color of the legs and the brown more than grey back I think it may be a Common...). The pictures were taken...
