Apparently her son was a passenger in the car with her. He suffered minor injuries in the collision.

Anyone else like Birds AND planes?

Sad to read that Carolyn Grace has been killed in a car crash while visiting Australia. RIP Carolyn. This is Carolyn arriving at Duxford in July 2009, when I was fortunate enough to be there for a birthday present flight in a Tiger Moth.

Anyone else like Birds AND planes?

I never got to the east end, although my son did when he went walkabout. We were left of centre. We arrived at about 0915 and were walking from the green zone car park just as a Gulfstream was departing and the Italian Typhoon started its display as we entered the arena at 0940 after passing...

Anyone else like Birds AND planes?

Looking at photos from only a few years ago it had the full tail number and national identification. Now all it has is the 'Catbird' logo next to the door on the side facing away from me.

Thanks John. Strange that it's not carrying any other identification. EDIT. Done some research. Its call sign is Catbird 1 and it's the transport for the Commander in Chief of the US Navy in Europe (and Africa)

Anyone else like Birds AND planes?

An ID required on this one. I was on the beach near the naval base at Rota in SW Spain a couple of weeks ago. A Cessna 650 Citation VII with standard Armada markings passed over several times with its wheels down on the approach, presumably doing 'touch and goes'. When I saw this come in from...

Only 5 P51s that I noticed. This was a nice touch, with one of them escorting the B17 for the first part of its display.

You're going to need some bigger cards.

Anyone else like Birds AND planes?

We were opposite the flight line, near the west end in front of the corsairs and sea furies, next to the 'Monarch' airliner. As you say, a brilliant show. It's the first time I've been down to the Flying Legends since 1998, I think, but I've been to Duxford at other times, most recently for a...

Anyone else like Birds AND planes?

Flying Legends. Still winding down from the four hour drive back from Duxford. The day was rather good.B (: A few early edits, chosen more or less at random. Bare varnished metal seems to be very much in fashion.

Anyone else like Birds AND planes?

Well, if the weather finally gets around to declaring summer in the near future I'll be making a trip down to Duxford for the Flying Legends next month. I've not decided which day yet, I'll let the weather decide. I'm looking forward to trying out my new toy (Sigma 150-600 zoom) on the display...

Anyone else like Birds AND planes?

202 Squadron A frequent sight over our area for several decades (below) an S&R helicopter of 'A' Flight of 202 Squadron, taken half a mile from my home a couple of days ago. Sadly, it is soon to be a thing of the past and the familiar sound of the engines of a Sea King from nearby RAF Boulmer...

It has the look of something blind that lives all its life in a cave. Some cave.

Anyone else like Birds AND planes?

I was less than delighted with this display of low flying a couple of weeks ago. A Flying Tractor dusting rice fields at La Janda, presumably with pesticide. In the days before the dusting the fields were host to numbers of Montagu's harriers hunting dragonflies - I got good pics of one...

Anyone else like Birds AND planes?

The last time I was at the Guadalhorce reserve in Spain this pair of Air Tractors came across from Malaga airport just a couple of miles away.

Thanks Geoff. Their heads must have been spinning. It was loops all the way past me.

We often see the black ones, and tucanos and other stuff, they fly over our house, but believe me, if the red ones were in the habit of coming this way I'd have spotted them.

Anyone else like Birds AND planes?

Maybe, but the North Northumberland coast is some way from home and as I said, we don't often see them around here. The only time we see them here usually is if the full team are on their way to or from a display in Scotland. When Leuchars display was on we used to get them over the house doing...

Anyone else like Birds AND planes?

I went up the coast this morning to Howick (it's only 10 minutes or so) to get some photos of the Siberian stonechat in less-than-good light before the promised rain set in. A smoke trail over the sea to the south caught my eye and it turned out to be three of the Red Arrows - almost as rare as...

Anyone else like Birds AND planes?

I can remember when I was at school and it first turned up in the Observers Book of Aircraft, billed as the Lockheed YF12A - a fighter prototype. I thought the future had arrived. I declared there and then that it was my favourite aircraft. It seemed to disappear from view and never came to...

Anyone else like Birds AND planes?

Waking up this morning I got to wondering when the final show of this year's season would be on. I had a rush of blood and a sudden urge to go down. Good news - It's on tomorrow. Bad news - the weather's crap. It got me remembering the other time I went to the same display. It was spread...
