    Hmm. Birders I've seen have chosen to carry 8x42 more than any other binocular. This would imply that any other binocular is a compromising choice, made because of specific requirements, a person's needs or preferences; such as strength and health, varied terrain, or subjects of interest...

    Qualifying your initial statement to justify a slightly lighter and smaller instrument for someone who hikes during the day is good.

    Hardly sage advice. I look to a number of people with vastly more experience and knowledge than you or I. When there is broad agreement I take notice. Perhaps you need to read more widely. The Swarowski 8x42NL is probably the best birding binocular currently available.

    Seven pages of mostly verbiage. I think you are wrong. If asked I'd say the Swarovski 8x42 NL is probably the best birding binocular currently on the market.
