It's now been put out by RBA as an unconfirmed report, which may sugest they read about it here! Sadly it wasn't me that saw it, if it was viewable from my garden at any point since I got home then that's a big garden tick that's got away... :-C

If I lived near the coast I would seriously consider checking out the Buddleia displays at any garden centres in the area...

Some near misses on my drive from Norwich to Burnham Overy this eve included a Little Owl and a Buzzard, which passed within a few feet of my car at windscreen height! A Spoonbill flew east as I headed towards the sea wall, with 4 flying west about 15 mins later. After a nervous 10 minute...

4 Hobby near Lyng yesterday afternoon but numbers of other summer visitors seemed on the low side still i.e. only a couple of Sedge Warblers but no Whitethroats or Reed Warblers.

A pair appear to be nest building in a dense bush in my garden over the past few days. Really hope they stick around to breed!

Was the Cattle Egret photographing the twitchers or the cattle? ;)

It might just be my imagination, but I feel the number of scarcer birds turning up in Great Yarmouth Cemy has decreased since the wind farm appeared (I guess I should look up records to prove that theory!). It's been a long while since I birded the area but saw many good birds and found the...

With all the skua experts on this thread I'm sure you'll get plenty of answers soon ;) Darker birds are always difficult but I would echo some of the positives in the id Q&A thread - beak is promising, as are the shafts restricted to p1 and p2, the tail projections are quite long and look blunt...

Agreed. I remember a Blue and Gold Macaw doing exactly the same over my house when I lived in Potter Heigham. Hearing the bird from indoors, it was quite a magnificent sight watching it flying round and round. Watching the owner climbing a tree to get it back was rather amusing too!

A tough day for me at Burnham Overy. Arrived at 11.30 and saw a group of 11 Common Buzzards towards Holkham, but sadly no Rough-legs. As I headed down the track an unstreaked Acro appeared but didn't show particularly well, though I'm satisfied it was just a Reed. At the boardwalk I headed...

Went to Winterton North Dunes today (mainly to look for Southern Emerald Damselflies) but managed about 8 Redstarts, 3 Pied Flycatchers, 4 Spotted Flycathers and at least 10 Whinchats. Unfortunately, there was no sign of the 2 Wrynecks seen earlier in the hour or so I looked for them. Photos...

Taken from this document from the Norfolk Wildlife Trust: http://www.norfolkwildlifetrust.org.uk/Documents/Species-Leaflets/WF_Norfolk_Hawker.pdf "● The flight period of the Norfolk Hawker usually finishes in mid-July." So almost certainly too late in the year to see Norfolk Hawker, despite...

Just got back from Horsey. Walking along the Nelson Head Track at 2.30 when met a birder coming the other way. Asked if he'd seen the Roller and he said no, it had flown north at about 11.20ish. Turned to my left and scanned to the north and there it was, sat on a bush, albeit distant! My...

Not disagreeing. If it had been confirmed as an Ortolan Bunting and still there next day I would probably have gone after work (even though I too have seen a few and don't "need" it for Norfolk). However, if it was confirmed as a Grey-necked, I'd have got up early and gone before work...

    Norfolk birding

So many comments on here sum up the current "twitching" scene. Not too many people care that an Ortolan has been reported because most people have seen one (ok, it's nice to see another but we're not all gonna panic over a report of one). Someone, sensibly in my opinion, suggests that this...

Managed to get to the Roller this evening, with kids in tow! A fabulous bird and one I hope will stick around long enough for me to have at least one more trip out to see!

    Norfolk birding

A few years ago I twitched a Red-foot at Lakenheath and viewed from the Norfolk side and saw the bird fly across the river into Norfolk. I believe David Norgate and a few others did the same...

Not me! I've been in and out the garden all day doing bits and pieces and just the usual Grey's flying about that breed over the back. I haven't even managed a Hobby from the garden yet :-C

Sometimes work really gets in the way of good garden ticks - I'm guessing the Cranes would've been viewable from my house in Old Costessey too!!!!

Red Kite over the A11 by the Mulbarton turn off was a nice surprise at 4.15(ish).

This mornings pager messages had it by the Nun's Bridges again but I agree that The Bridge Inn is a convenient place to stop. I've probably stopped at the Bridge Inn 50+ times since the bird first turned up (I work in Thetford and pass the pub at least twice per day) and have seen it there on 5...

Anyone in Thetford at dusk would do well to look up - I'm not the best at estimates but I would say at least 5 thousand (could well be double that) Starlings have been flocking over the town...

Yesterday I saw the Dipper on 2 separate occasions along the Little Ouse - the first time it was by the first bridge as you walk along Bridge Walk (off of Mill Lane). The second time it was flushed from the river bank by the 2 otters between this bridge and the sluice. I believe it had spent...

Couldn't quite match Jim's tally but 15 Waxwings were in the school car park again this evening at about 4.50pm. Given 2 weeks have passed. I wonder if this is part of the same flock...?
