    Seri Manjung Eagle ID please

Andy I really don’t know what your issue or point is - I don’t doubt that these two species are very similar and call is a good separating criteria of birds not seen clearly. However, there are morphological differences that have been cited in more than one reference so it’s disingenuous to...

    Seri Manjung Eagle ID please

Maybe not but it was enough for someone very experienced in identifying Crested Serpent Eagles to know it wasn’t one, which was my point - it’s no more ‘iron clad’ than the assertions you are making about altitudes. Lets face it, none of us has any experience of this species ...

    Seri Manjung Eagle ID please

Sighting here between ca 700 and 1000 m a.s.l so not necessarily restricted to above 1000m Observer notes the MSE as not only darker but, ‘stockier’ than CSE so clearly can be separated on structure...

    Seri Manjung Eagle ID please

CSE is usually found at lower altitudes so even where locations overlap, I suspect they wouldn’t share the same habitat either.

    Seri Manjung Eagle ID please

So disregard the distinguishing features I pointed out above and just ID this as CSE as distinct from MSE on range? . Without having seen MSE (have any of us here?!), and my only experience of CSE is with the nominate in India rather than more Eastern ssp, (I doubt the ssp of CSE vary to the...

    Seri Manjung Eagle ID please

I must admit, I haven’t really looked up any measurements for MSE so that’s interesting - of course wingshape ie narrow v broad and hand v arm proportion can definitely affect impression of winglength so comparing still photos could understandably be misleading - good note to self - don’t...

    Seri Manjung Eagle ID please

You beat me to it Larry - I’m not sure as separating criteria how helpful that is - both loosely fit this description however I don’t think John was making a comparative observation, just iding the image (perhaps not realising the photographer was asking if it was an either or!)...

    Seri Manjung Eagle ID please

I beleive its a Crested Serpent Eagle D - Mountain Serpent Eagle has a shorter, rounded wing and less extending, fewer fingers - some of the images on ebird seem to be mis-labelled. cf wing shape Mountain Eagle https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/56868511 Crested Eagle...
