Phonescoping - shots, settings and combos

Hi Mike, I can tell they're Spoonbills but maybe wouldn't have guessed at the mudflats and tidal creeks! Great video - talking of World Wetlands Day and feeding on rhizomes reminded me of watching a Purple Swamphen in the Ebro Delta, a fantastic wetland that I got to visit last February. This...

Nice video Mike. I ought to try more videoscoping. Spoonbills are great birds, last year there were good numbers in Suffolk, sadly didn't get to see the big flock that was up the coast. Gi

Hi Mike, Nice videos, be interested to see more. Sorry to hear about your scope - that's bad news. I changed phone model in the Autumn, now have Huawei P40 Pro. Not had a lot of opportunity to use it, so far not as sharp as I was hoping, some of it due to the typical requirement for...

Thanks Mike. That open wing shot is great - superb pattern. Interesting read and nice to see that such a species can halt destructive development. Gi

Phonescoping - shots, settings and combos

It's been a while since posting but then haven't really been out much. A couple of after work trips over the last week though. The first two were the same evening, the third last night. This was taken at 22:10 and I used a 4 second shutter on the mobile. I've also bought some audio recording...

That's some great photos. I'd be happy just to see one of those in Suffolk! Gi

Nice. That's better than I've managed but I have the Honor 9 which isn't up to the Huawei 10 Mate Pro. Gi

I hadn't been sure which adaptor to purchase and also found that I'd still want to use the mobile when out. With this homemade adaptor I can keep it on all the time, fits in my pocket fine and the phone can still be used to view/send texts etc. Don't blame you taking photos of a Spoony! Great...

Phonescoping - shots, settings and combos

Got round to photographing my adaptor at last. This was made with the case that came with the phone and then finding something that would fit the eye piece. Eventually found a bottle top that just needed the inner thread to be cut away with a scalpel. I cut the bottle top to match the hole for...

I again am more birder than photographer although sometimes I realise I tend to do more than I should! Agree on conditions, I delete far more photos than I keep. Distance, light, wind or the bird moving make it difficult. Any zoom exacerbates things too. For settings like ISO, EV and shutter...

Phonescoping - shots, settings and combos

Hi Mike, About 30m. It's quite a popular footpath and some species, such as Wigeon and Black-tailed Godwit, tend to be tolerant of people. Others a bit less so like Teal and Curlew. The area was part of my old patch when I worked in the area although I tended to up river more. I came back from...

Lovely videos. That one of the Cooper's Hawk is amazing! Gi

Phonescoping - shots, settings and combos

I visited my old patch before work yesterday and have attached some digiscoped photos. The Teal and Wigeon were taken using a 2 second timer, the Wigeon being fairly static and close made it better to get a nicer image. Cheers, Gi

Good luck with the adaptor, you'll find it much easier. Gi

Phonescoping - shots, settings and combos

I agree it can be frustrating setting up. For me as I use a phone it's not attached permanently so I have to quickly get it out, go to camera mode, then attach to the scope. I'm getting quicker but regularly miss stuff. I used to have a Canon S95 with home made adaptor. Generally softer images...

Thanks, a very lucky shot as hadn't planned but just opened as I took the photo! Gi

Nice idea. I previously posted some photos with my current set up but I'll add some from a recent trip to the Pyrenees and Ebro Delta. Set up is a Kowa 883 with zoom lens + Honor 9 mobile + homemade adaptor. The latter I'll take a photo of and post here at some point. I use the default camera...
