i Agree Lewis, I am not sure where your going with the pixels but that as it may be, this is a photo of a Pileated. I believe Pileated based on other observations before and after the photo was taken. Not unlike Mike who believes, based on observation, that his is an IBWO. You can comment that...

O.K. Finishing up my third year of search and no IBWO seen as yet. However there is a lot more area that I have not covered on the White River Refuge, Arkansas. If at the point where I feel as if I have covered enough area then I can say that no IBWO is present on the White I will join the...

O.K. I think she may use them at STUTTGART AIRPORT!!!!! I became totally frustrated with this Cornell group the first year when they could not produce. It is time to turn the search over to someone else. Who cares who…. Maybe Arkansas State or U of A at Monticello both has good bio programs. I...

TRE329 a snip from my search notes from May 2006, North unit White River Refuge "I had stopped to look and listen over my left shoulder when from my right and crossing in front of me at about 20 yards a large woodpecker came flying across, not in escape speed but more in just normal flight...

Creative Thinking Creative Thinking You know I almost believe you guys. Heck, I grew up in an industrial society, be out there at this time, do this at this time, take a break at this time, do it this way because this is the way it is done. Probably why I have not had a “scare”(possible IBWO...

American Pioneer For myself, I don’t care why he is doing it but I do care that he is doing it. Getting up early, out before dawn, checking his equipment, checking it twice. Strap those same old pair of boots that he meant to toss weeks ago for a new pair that doesn’t leak in multiple places...

Jesse and/or whoever; I find myself, these days, describing a Pileated as short , stocky. Is that description accurate, current with these evolving times, maybe? Just asking, just an attempt to clean up my field notes, or need we wait for the "killer" photo to describe Pileated as such.

You are right the bouncing/bobbing head. But I must give Bobby credit to know to inslulated the motor for sound. Although I have never been exposed to a mechanical decoy that was not irritatingly nosey. No it did not double knock.

Lots of unnecessary noise on this thread today. But that is not necessarily a bad thing. It kind of reminds me of listening to Bobby Harrison's presentation last month at a local bird festival. He was speaking of introducing motorized decoy's into his search this year. Probably not a bad...

Florida IBWO In the backyard of Jerry Jackson? Most likely, probably a reason why Dr. J. moved to Florida. However if there are IBWO's in Florida then he knows about them. Question to the forum, you guys, if Dr. J. is not the current leading authority on IBWO then who is? And why not consult Dr...
