Okay, this is fun and all, BUT, let's not forget Mike Collins has spent a LOT of time in this area, and has been unable to adequately document an Ivory-billed Woodpecker. If there are birds as he contends there is NO WAY he wouldn't be able to see the bird repeatedly and obtain photographs. I...

The recent post by Fishcrow just seemed to lead me to this: King Arthur: The swallow may fly south with the sun or the house martin or the plover may seek warmer climes in winter, yet these are not strangers to our land? 1st soldier with a keen interest in birds: Are you suggesting coconuts...

Hey check out the May 1 postings on ID-Frontiers Man, that is so excellent. Nicely done Will. (and effectively done apparently if you notice that no one indeed took the bait)

From Fishcrow: In fact, a woodpecker expert has noticed details in the March 29 video that he believes an observer such as Tanner would not have been able to detect during an observation of a live bird. Okay, now THAT might just be the funniest thing he's written so far. I'm sorry, i'm...

This is federal money, which, if not spent, simply disappears....No lie...it's gone....no one knows where it goes....I mean someone probably does, but they really can't tell you. I believe, personally, it goes into a slush fund for booze & hookers, but I can't prove that.

“We saw plenty of pileateds from the air, and could even photograph the majority of them as they flushed on either side of the aircraft’s flight path,” Lammertink says. “But what we saw was a small percentage of the birds we know are actually there, based on population-density surveys we’ve done...

Post #509 by Fishing4Clues "That is when I was told that it was a Ivorybilled. This sighting occured in aug.1999 I told the wildlife officers in decof 1999 and met Gene Sparling the first time in Jan 2000. Then when the press is called in 2005 they released that Gene found the bird within 1/2...

They are still expending significant effort on audio recording. Let me put this in bold. NO AUDIO RECORDINGS WILL CONSTITUTE DEFINITIVE PROOF. And since they are not analyzing the recordings in real time to find 'hot spots', what is the point? Every thing else seems reasonable. Searching...

Curunir, People aren't avoiding Tom's blog because they don't care about the future of all species, they are avoiding it (at least I am) because he's lost his way. Denying global warming or man's role in it, will not make it go away. Tom's barking up the wrong tree and the lack of people...

    Ivory-billed Woodpecker (formerly updates)

I wrote this for the Tom Nelson site awhile back: Fitzcrow: ....I wish to complain about this woodpecker what I discovered not less than 2 years ago from this very big woods. skeptics: Oh yes, the, uh, the Pileated...What's,uh...What's wrong with it? Fitzcrow: I'll tell you what's wrong with...

I'd go so far as to say that SINCE 2005, we have MORE evidence that the IBWO is extinct. The increased search effort in likely habitat since 2005 and it's failure to obtain incontrovertible evidence of the species really add to this 'belief' in extinction. The key word here is...

As I read Fishcrow's blog and read how his house was ransacked and now his foot hurts, I just worry that this is all going to end badly for our little fishy. And to give equal time....over at Tommy's skeptic site, you have to scroll through 15 posts before you'll find one that someone...

I don't think anyone (birder, nonbirder, committee) is rejecting a claim because it can't be replicated. I think we are rejecting claims that cannot be independently verified. The lack of replication is troubling...extremely troubling, but is not the reason for rejection.

    Ivory-billed Woodpecker (formerly updates)

While the species was extant (pre 1900), you could (and many did) go into an area, collect some birds, and then return to the area to collect more. I'm not sure where you are going with this? If the birds exist and are breeding there is precedence that you can find birds and return to find...

Page 40 "The Grail Bird" Dec 20, 21, 1940. Jim Tanner took his future bride into his old study site where he had sttudied birds in 1937-1939. But these multiple sightings are not really what we are talking about. Tell me when it happened that an IBWO was reported and then others were able to go back to the same area right away and see the bird well again. It should be like this: someone sees an Ivory-billed, they report it, other...

    Ivory-billed Woodpecker (formerly updates)

Look folks, it comes down to this. If you have experience in the birding world...I'm talking the listing, recording, field notes, rare bird reporting/chasing world...you simply can't understand why people are willing to accept so little when it comes to a mega-rarity. If you are have birded in...

I just read Cyberthrush's take on David Sibley's blog post. There seems to be this belief that if we 'give up on' the Ivory-billed it will disappear and we will have squandered our chances to protect some remnant population. Let's take a look at that. In every southeastern state this is a...
