Great images DCJ - easily the best of the species that I have ever seen from that location. Your level of fieldcraft must be incredible to be able to get close enough to capture such fantastic detail. Even though your tadger was frozen solid you still managed to keep the camera steady. I'm...

Purple heron Luckily I got to the Phil Stead hide for it opening on Thursday. Within minutes of opening the shutters Adam had spotted the bird on the far left of the ponds. Unfortunately light levels were pretty dire at 8.20am (and remained that way most of the day) (For the photographers) -...

Perhaps if I had let the Rainton Meadows anaconda loose on the guys above they would have made a quick exit. Eel caught by (and finally released by) the cormorant yesterday afternoon on pond 2

Coming to a pond near you. Now those people who visit the freezer at Rainton Meadows will agree it isn't the best of hides. Not only is it cold and windy but it is also the hang out for yobs on a night time. Even though the yobs are a pain in the neck and a constant nuisance to the birds they...

Of course a half decent photo would have made ID easier especially as I didn't see the bird. ;) I knew the bird began with the letter r but the the jizz in the photo had me baffled.

It visited the hide two days running (Sunday & Monday) - actually coming into and walking around the walls of the hide.

RM Freezer today. For a fraction of a split second (not even long enough to frame the shot) this cuckoo landed on a post in front of the hide before flying into the trees on the opposite bank.

Yes - 2 stints at RM from around 11.30am. One frequently straight in front of the hide giving people good opportunities for views and photos. Both still present at 4pm when I left.

And why did we even bother with the bittern, common sandpiper, dunlin, egyptian goose or golden plover. It's so sh!te I'll not even mention the ruff, little stint, little ringed plover, ringed plover, buzzard, various warblers, white and yellow wagtail, leucistic herring gull, wood sandpiper or...

And it was hardly worth the walk to the hide for the green sandpiper, iceland gull, med gull, yellow legged gull or scaup.
