First identified on the island in 2019, it has been confirmed that there are at least 10 breeding pairs of Storm Petrels on the Isle of May, the only known breeding colony on the east coast of Scotland. Full results of the survey have still to be published...

Big news today as a Coot showed up at Isle of May, mingling with the Guillemots.

Quick update on a trip I made to the Isle of May on 13 May. This was my first proper island birdwatching in three years, so I was really looking forward to it. Some trips had been cancelled due to bad weather, but we were lucky that it was calm and not too cold. All the usual seabirds were...

I saw that the Isle of May boat had a small pod of bottlenose dolphins approach them and swim around the boat. I'm hoping there are some around on 13 May when I visit.

The SOC list of rarities for the area is what convinced me to change my record.

The geese were seen from a moving train and often quite distant - I know there were greylag geese about, but pretty sure they were bean geese. Had a look at their feet and they didn't appear to be very pink, so possibly ruling out pink-footed geese - but as I say they were often quite distant...

Not too sure if this should be posted here, but I was on a train from Glasgow to Pitlochry yesterday and saw some nice birds. Best one was a red kite over a field just as the train came into Bridge of Allan. A bit further north towards and just beyond Perth were lots of pink-footed geese and a...

I'll be going on a geological field trip in Kinghorn a week on Sunday. I'm thinking of going over on Saturday to get a bit of birding in the area first, can anyone recommend the best locations nearby at this time of year? Thanks.

That's sad news about the hide getting vandalised. Some people can't abide that other people will use them as part of a hobby or something they enjoy, so they have to spoil it for them. My local reserve of Lochwinnoch had three hides at one point, now it's down to one as two of them got burned down.

Thanks Michael. I can't afford to be spending a lot of money just now, so deciding whether to go to further away reserves has to be carefully weighed up.

Are the young Tawny Owls at Vane Farm easily visible throughout the day or best in early evening? I quite fancy paying a visit to see them, plus I've not been there since the winter and it would be nice to see what the reserve is like during summer.

Are these the same Eagles that have been showing up at Vane Farm?

    Tayforth Birding

Hi, I managed to get a day off work today and I headed over again, after Sunday being a bit of a waste. It was a glorious day, not a cloud in the sky, the temperature sitting just above freezing, and the mountains all around gleaming white in the sun. My first port of call was to head up to...

Well, that was a fruitful visit! Report on the weather last night was of patchy cloud and sunny spells. Checked again first thing this morning and it was showing as heavy cloud. So set-off thinking that's not too bad, but as soon as I was on the M8 it was sleet and then snow all the way...

Interesting to see that White-tailed Eagles have been present around Vane Farm all year. I'm going to pay a visit tomorrow morning. Last report on the RSPB website was on Thursday, does anyone know if they're still around in the area?
