Anyone try for or catch the Red-Flanked bluetail today at Whitburn? - I was going to but would have meant a manic dash before work :-(

Birds do not recognise boundaries my friend. Even if they did I doubt they'd discriminate ;)

Can't recall the exact time you left mate, but the bird re-appeared at 17.35 - couldn't have been by too much. Did you catch up with the Spoonbill? - I (probably foolishly) advised your mum it was nailed to the same spot and you couldn't miss it! - at least I think it was your mum I was...

You weren't the one who got a lift in the Mini on Wednesday Andrew were you? - I recall it returned shortly after then. Ouch! In fairness, it would be dull if they were all there all the time. I missed the Whiskered - I'l enjoy them better next time lol.

Any hirundines arrived yet? Hi all Reason for the question is I am sure in recent years have seen them in first half of March and seems as though none reported this year. On a separate query, can anyone point me to where I may find migrant arrival data? - I know I have read it somewhere -...

Hi Ian - stunning pics of my favourite bird. Not seen one for a year or two - I'm off work but can't get out so missed all of the migration and had to cancel various trips - the year list has stalled:-C As mentioned above Ross, I've been more or less stuck indoors fter recent hospitalisation...

Well, John, when I first started out I was told the best and most accurate way of counting birds was to count the number of wings and then divide by 2:eek!: It works well in flocks of 20 or less ;) On a more serious note, I suppose it would be done using area where possible, e.g. approx 40...

Neil, you're a Washington lad, did you not stop to ask it;) Watched "our" Avocets today courtesy of taking 1 hours holiday at work and finishing at 3 instead of 4 (the things you have to do eh?) Such a sweet couple, virtually joined together and courting strong as me granda would have said:t...

Great news, nice to have our very own sub-species Avocetus Northernus back in God's little acre;) I had thought (dreamed) of an Avocet colony there, but by the time the Terns arrive, there's no room! Besides, 3 years in a row for one pair is great, more might be seen as greedy B (:

Hi Dougie/Steve Just to update. When I got to Clara Vale this afternoon, Squirry & Rattie had some sort of truce. However, a local moggie came in and chased the rat into the water nr the feeders. It then proceeded to chase the Moorhens whilst the rat escaped unseen at the other side of the...

I'll second that - There were more Water Rail than Moorhen & Coot added together. Quite a well hidden site and well done JB & CW. - oh aye and started the day off with Trow Quarry's star attraction - The Little Owl. Cheer Dougie:t: Dave (Fatrat) is still amazed it was exactly as you described...

Had a few hours with David (Fatrat) on Teesside today as he'd never been birding in the area. Mixed bag, (no Peregrine today) but Little Ringed plover x 2 (Calor Gas) a few Ringed Plover & Gadwall (Back Saltholme) and didn't go to Dormans for the Great White Egret that was seen briefly by 4...

As Stewart Said, nice one JBee I am especially intrigued as to the lens - I'm looking for an all-rounder for Florida and considering the so called superzooms, 28-200 28-300 etc don't work, them pics look fine - especially as birds are a difficult subject :t: I've pm'd you to save hijacking...

The Washington ones Turned up first week in June. The chicks were ringed (LEK photo's confirmed this) one of the chicks disappeared, as did one of the adults, then the remaining chick and adult flew and were relocated on Tees Marshes the next day (or 2 of the 3 were). Great to think they are...
