    Inverness - Smithton / Culloden. 2pm. A huge, 100+ bird flock of Waxwing were on the berry trees opposite Harry Gows as I was headed down the hill. Flew off when disturbed, but were down at head height so quite the sight!

    I was on the train back from the north - and just before Golspie stop there was a flock of around 30 Waxwing clambering across the bushes by the line.

    The wind and rain is horrendous, and I was shocked to see them. I thought it was a flock of Starlings until I got the torch on them. Red wing and Fieldfares!

    Just a heads up - a cloud, a veritable cloud of Thrushes just swept in off the Moray Firth, headed inland over Milton of Culloden.

    Wood Warblers are super common in Inverness itself - from the nature reserve itself to the leafy graveyards and trees that line the river and canal all the way to Loch Ness and surrounds.

    Osprey are back. Delightful to see over Ness Islands this afternoon as a pair headed leisurely towards the Firth.

    Redstart, Red Kite, Red Throated Divers, and a high but glorious overhead view of a Golden Eagle. Not shabby for a walk about Loch Ruthven and surrounds.

    Smart summer plumage Black Throated Divers on Loch / Little Loch Shin this morning. Up on the smaller lochs, Red Throated racing to and from. A windy but enjoyable day.

    A massive fall of Thrushes across the Nairn sea front just the now. A mix of Redwing, Fieldfare and others.

    Shock of the evening - Two Whooper Swans coming down the Moray Firth just off of Munlochy Harbour.

    Honey Buzzard over Fortrose today, circling over the ridge line, headed towards Munlochy. Adult male.

    Waxwings. Everywhere. From Ardersier point to Ness Islands. Not since 2009 have I seen such an abundance. One Tree had 200+ in.

    And still the migrants keep coming! Haven't seen this many Fieldfares and Redwings for at least 6, maybe 7 years. Incredible.

    A smattering of skuas through Chanonry / Ardersier along with a handful of Red Throated Divers. Pintail ducks still hanging around the mudflats by the Merkinch nature reserve.

    What a day. Guests drove up from Newcastle for a birding weekend, so decided to hit them with the best locations for some of their 'must see' species. In Aviemore for 730am. Straight to Peregrines and Pied Flycatchers. Nicely done, then off to the Loch Garten, for Redstart and Crested Tits...

    A handful do, but the majority are getting into adult plumage ready to head north to Iceland and Norway. They have started to leave so I'd expect the next week or two they'd vanished.

    Loch Ruthven is alive to the sounds of Cuckoos! Slavonian Grebes looking absolutely astounding, can see why they are such a firm favourite. In the local, fly over female Hen Harrier and Kestrels, Red Throated Diver sat preening on Loch Ashie. All in all a very pleasent evening.

    If you are on Mull overnight, make sure to catch the night roost of the Great Northern Divers, over 60 birds on and around Eorsa and the bay it sits in.
